USA roadtrip #19: A Relaxing Day at Lake Powell

After the last two adventures at the Grand Canyon North Rim and the Waheap Hoodoos we felt ready for a quiet day without traveling at Lake Powell.

As already mentioned, we like the campsite Lone Rock Campground very much. On the one hand the park is quite cheap ($ 10 - $ 15 per vehicle per night) and on the other hand it offers the possibility to park your RV or car or pitch up your tent directly at the lake.

So there are no strict regulations and rules (as usual in Germany) which spoil the camping fun.

What we especially enjoyed during our stay, was the American hospitality. Already in shortest time we made closer contact with our neighbors, which lasted even longer than our vacation. We were eating and drinking (beer) together or were even invited to a barbecue or a boat trip on the lake.

If you have the opportunity to go out on the lake, take it. We paddled to the Lone Rock and the other side of the lake, where are some spectacular spots for cliff jumping. Unfortunately, we hadn’t our camera with us.

The best way to round off the evening is to enjoy a cold beer and an open-fire grilled S'More with a fascinating view at the clear starry sky.

After so much rest we are ready for climbing Angels Landing in the Zion National Park. An absolutely breathtaking climb!

Nach den beiden letzten Abenteuern am Grand Canyon North Rim und bei den Waheap Hoodoos fühlten wir uns reif für einen ruhigen Tag ohne Programm am Lake Powell.

Wie bereits erwähnt gefällt uns der Campingplatz Lone Rock Campground besonders gut. Zum einen ist der Park recht günstig ($10 - $15 pro Fahrzeug pro Nacht) und zum anderen bietet er die Möglichkeit sein Wohnwagen, Auto oder Zelt direkt am See zu parken bzw. aufzuschlagen.

Es gibt also keine strengen Vorschriften und Regeln, wie es oft in Deutschland der Fall ist, die den Campingspaß trüben.
Unglaubliche Sand Statuen, wurden täglich erweitert

Was uns bei unserem Aufenthalt ganz besonders gefallen hat, war die amerikanische Gastfreundschaft. Bereits in kürzester Zeit knüpften wir engeren Kontakt mit unseren Nachbarn, der sogar bis nach unserem Urlaub anhielt. Man aß und trank zusammen oder wurde sogar zum Barbecue oder einer Bootsfahrt auf dem See eingeladen.

Falls ihr die Möglichkeit habt auf den See hinauszufahren, nehmt diese auf jeden Fall an. Wir sind zum Lone Rock und der anderen Uferseite gepaddelt, wo es einige spektakuläre Stellen zum Klippenspringen gibt. Leider hatten wir bei diesem Ausflug keine Kamera dabei.

Den Abend lässt man am besten Ausklingen bei einem kühlen Bier, einem über dem offenen Feuer gegrillten S'More und einem faszinierenden Blick in den klaren Sternehimmel.

Nach so viel Erholung kann es losgehen zur Besteigung des Angels Landing im Zion National Park. Ein absolut atemberaubender Aufstieg!
