Indonesia #17: Yogyakarta and Prambanan

In Yogya we stayed at Sae Sae Hostel, which other backpackers have already recommended in Bali. This is, a very nice backpacker hostel, where you can meet a lot of new people. The city of Yogyakarta or ‘Yogya’ how the locals call it, is nice but nothing too special. The main attractions are definitely the many temples in the surrounding area.

We visited the Prambanan temple in the classic way for the sunset. Incidentally, if you choose the combo ticket with Borobudur, you have to visit both temples in one day! The scooter ride takes about half an hour to Prambanan. There is a lot of traffic at the time (and you have to drive back in the dark!), but if you drive slowly and carefully, this is not a problem.
The temple itself is quite nice, it reminded us of Angkor Wat, but of course not that spectacular.

We were about half past 5 and at the time it was unfortunately quite busy. Maybe a visit early in the morning makes more sense if you want to avoid the crowds. If you only have time or desire for one of the two temples, we would definitely recommend Borobudur, preferably the sunrise. The best value for money you will get with the combo ticket. Our trip through Indonesia is almost finished, tomorrow we have our last stop in Jakarta.

In Yogya waren wir im Sae Sae Hostel, welches uns andere Backpacker schon in Bali empfohlen haben. Zurecht wie wir finden, ein sehr schönes Backpacker Hostel, in welchem man super neue Leute kennen lernen kann. Die Stadt Yogyakarta bzw. von den Locals nur Yogya genannt ist ganz nett, aber auch nichts weltbewegendes. Die Hauptattraktionen sind auf jeden Fall die vielen Tempel im Umland.

Köstliches Sambal

Den Prambanan Tempel haben wir ganz klassisch zum Sonnenuntergang besucht. Falls ihr euch für das Komboticket mit Borobudur entscheiden solltet, müsst ihr übrigens beide Tempel an einem Tag besichtigen! Mit dem Roller braucht man ungefähr eine halbe Stunde zum Prambanan. Zu der Zeit ist zwar viel Verkehr (und man muss im Dunkeln zurück fahren!), aber wenn man langsam und vorsichtig fährt, ist dies kein Problem.
Der Tempel an sich ist ganz schön, hat uns etwas an Angkor Wat erinnert, aber natürlich lange nicht so spektakulär.

Wir waren ca. halb 5 und um die Uhrzeit war es leider ziemlich voll. Eventuell macht hier ein Besuch früh am Morgen mehr Sinn, wenn man den Massen aus dem Weg gehen will. Falls ihr nur Zeit oder Lust auf einen der beiden Tempel habt, würden wir euch auf jeden Fall zu Borobudur, am besten zum Sonnenaufgang raten. Das beste Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis werdet ihr mit dem Komboticket bekommen. Damit ist unsere Indonesienreise auch schon fast wieder vorbei. Morgen ist der letzte Stop in Jakarta.
