Indonesia #06: Pura Ulun Danu Bratan and Sekumpul waterfalls [EN/GER]

We hired a private driver the day before to bring us to the most famous temple in Bali, which you see in almost every article about Bali: The floating Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple. If you also want to hire a private driver, you just have to walk around Ubud. There are plenty of travel agency stalls in the street, just talk to them and negotiate what you want. We wanted them to drive us to the temple at sunrise and afterwards to the relatively unknown Sekumpul waterfalls. We paid 500k (35USD) for this trip. If you share with other people from the hostel, this is quite cheap. Or you rent a scooter (our recommendation).
From Ubud it is about 1,5h drive (in the morning without traffic) to the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple, so we started at 4.30am. The sunrise itself was not that spectacular, but when you come this early to the temple you avoid the crowds. Our driver told us, in the noon there are more than 5 to 10 times more people!

After the sunrise we drove about one hour Sekumpul. On the way to Sekumpul you have some breathtaking viewpoints, where you should take some pictures or use a swing if you want.

In Sekumpul starts the trail down to the waterfalls. You can get a guide to show you the way (they will come to you as soon as you leave the car), but it’s not really necessary the way is fairly easy. The way itself is really beautiful, just see for yourselves ;)

Once you made it downstairs (yes at the end there are a lot of stairs you have to climb down), you can either go left and follow the river upstream, or go right. On either way there are waterfalls (in total there are 7 waterfalls), so you should take both ways. When you take the left trail, you sometimes have to cross the river so be sure to take care of your camera and mobile phone! Bringing a waterproof bag won’t be de dumbest idea…

Wir haben am Tag vorher einen privaten Fahrer in Ubud angeheuert, damit er uns zu dem wohl berühmtesten Tempel Balis fährt: Dem schwimmenden ** Pura Ulun Danu Bratan** Tempel. Wenn ihr auch einen privaten Fahrer wollt, solltet ihr einfach durch Ubud laufen. Dort sind überall Reiseagenturen, welche Touren an Straßenständen anbieten. Wir haben ihnen gesagt, dass wir zum Sonnenaufgang bei dem Tempel sein möchten und im Anschluss noch zu den Sekumpul Wasserfällen wollen. Das ist alles kein Problem, nach ein bisschen handeln haben wir dann 500k (35USD) bezahlt. Wenn ihr noch ein paar Leute im Hostel fragt und die Fahrt teilt, ist das wirklich ein sehr guter Preis. Oder ihr mietet euch einfach einen Roller (was wir euch empfehlen würden).
Von Ubud dauert die Fahrt ca eine Stunde (morgens wenn kein Verkehr ist), also sind wir um 4.30 Uhr gestartet. Aufgrund relativ starker Bewölkung war der Sonnenaufgang nicht besonders spektakulär, allerdings könnt ihr um die Uhrzeit den Massen entgehen. Neben uns war nur eine Hand voll Fotografen da. Der Fahrer meinte zu uns am Nachmittag sind dort immer fünf- bis zehnmal mehr Touristen. Früh aufstehen lohnt sich hier also wirklich.

Im Anschluss sind wir noch etwa eine Stunde nach Sekumpul gefahren. Der Weg durch die Berge Balis bietet einige atemberaubende Aussichtspunkte. Hier lohnt es sich die eine oder andere Fotopause zu machen. Wer mag kann auch schaukeln ;)

Sobald man in Sekumpul ankommt, kommen gleich die locals und wollen euch eine geführte Tour zu den Wasserfällen anbieten. Diese ist aber nicht Pflicht, der Weg ist wirklich sehr einfach. Der Pfad nach unten selbst ist schon wunderschön. Aber seht selbst ;)

Unten angekommen geht es entweder nach links den Fluss aufwärts oder nach rechts. Es spielt keine Rolle wo ihr zuerst lang geht, in beide Richtungen gibt es Wasserfälle zu bestaunen (insgesamt gibt es dort sieben Wasserfälle). Bei dem linken Weg muss man ab und zu durch den Fluss warten, achtet also gut auf eure elektronischen Gegenstände wie Kamera oder Handy. Ein wasserfester Beutel bietet sich hier an!
