On the crest of a wave!

All one tell us that Punta de Lobos has the most beautiful view of the coast, so we have to see this great spectacle of nature. The guys at the hostel explain us where the trail begins. The walk is about 6 miles heading south, through incredible narrow country roads where trees, while growing up, have built natural tunnels, as if they knew we needed some shelter from the sun!







After a nice walk we do not resist to hitchhike and in a few minutes we find a lift that leads us to the destination. The two guys in the car are australian brothers on holiday and they tell us that they had travel a long way to Punta de Lobos is because it is famous all over the world to be one of the cult beaches for surfers, that much that in 2013 it was listed in the World Surf Reserve.







At destination we reach the top of the promontory by foot: it is like a large terrace on the sea and people stop to admire the landscape. We step among the rocks to find the perfect place to sit, like when at the cinema you look for the best place to enjoy the movie. We, as all the people there, are watching at the waves and these men seemingly helpless, with their black wetsuit, who work hard to stand on their table.











While holding our breath, we follow the evolutions of a surfer who seems to be very confident, he masters ther waves like a tamed animal, but in a moment a overflowing of white foam swallows him, while the table splashes forward careless of its owner. But he doesn't surrender and he swims to retrieve it. In so short time he is back on track!







You can recognize the experts surfers straight away, they look like dancers, acrobats, they jump, they flip and they go back to the top, on the crest. It seems impossible that they stay in balance for so long time, with their feet glued to the table. Watching them hypnotize you, while envy breaks, like the waves on the rocks, and the only things that remains is sincere admiration. After the fall they take off again to try again soon after, in search of the biggest wave. Meantime the red sun burns in the sky, preparing for a flaming sunset on the horizon.

And what about us? What do you think? We obviously haven't pulled back... Look at that elegance after just a surf lesson!!!
