Qutub Minar, Delhi -Part 2 (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

A few days back, I have written a post about India Diaries || Qutub Minar-Part 1 (UNESCO World Heritage Site) where I have discussed the history of Qutub Minar and architectural part. Today I am going to discuss my journey and experience and what I felt after visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site.


This was basically a mosque complex that signified the Islamic Dynasty. This complex is one of the oldest mosque complex in Delhi. Many people visit this place to explore the architecture and history behind this Qutub complex. Many structures were already destroyed and some survived and under renovation.

I was already in Delhi, so I went there in the morning at 10.00 am. It was not very far from my hotel and I took a taxi. So, it took 30 minutes almost to reach there. If you are a foreigner you have to buy tickets and you have to pay double rupees than native.

It was a really hot day and weekend also so there were so many people. When you go there, you will see Qutub Minar from the entrance. But, entrance wasn't inviting at all because of a lack of proper maintenance.

Maximum structures were destroyed except the Minar. Some were still there and some under maintenance. But, these arches were defined and signified Islamic Architecture. All the structures were made of sandstone and the exterior were decorated and crafted.

After reaching there, you will only see these beautiful structures but never gonna understand what were they or what they were used for. Most probably they known as Jain temple complex located beside Qutub Minar.

The ancient ruins of twenty-seven Jain temple complex over which a mosque was constructed beside Qutub Minar.

This mosque is also known by Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. Lots of decorated pillars holding the entire structure and one shocking thing was for me that I have not seen any domes there which signifies that it is mosque...

It was the first mosque built in Delhi after the Islamic conquest of India and the oldest surviving example of Ghurids architecture in the Indian subcontinent.

Every chamber was very huge and decorative. You can imagine from the picture, how much well decorated they were.

Decorative interior was just mindblowing and fascinating. Every wall explained how much creative work they were and patterns were so similar to each other. Mostly, this type of pattern can be seen in Islamic and Persian Architecture. Every chamber was minimum of 20 feet height and in this picture, you can see how beautiful these structures were. This was the entrance of this chamber. You can see many people visited there, capturing pictures and enjoyed their day.

This structure was called Smith's Cupola, a crowned shape structure. I don't know much about it so maybe you can find a little bit about it here.

This is the top level of the Qutub Minar and I managed to capture it by using a zooming lens. You will also see the pattern of this structure and how gorgeous it is.

If you love history, if you love architecture, I bet you will enjoy spending time there. Though the entire complex destroyed but whatever left, it still reminds everyone of the history of the Muslim Dynasty. This entire complex was very attractive and a great site for archeologists to explore history.

I was so tired and fortunately found a place to take some rest. Also, you were not allowed to take any kind of food, drinks or burning kind of stuffs.


Last but not least I went to taste world-famous Biriyani from Karim's restaurant. Their biriyani is world-famous and they use secret ingredients and smell was so good. I took chicken biriyani and it was so rush that day so I had to wait for 30 minutes for my desire food. But, it was worth it though it was expensive.

Also, I went to bazaar to buy some dry fruits. Well, it was really another life experience for me because in Ukraine culture is totally different.

Staying in Delhi, exploring Muslim architecture and culture was really amazing experience for me. I personally don't like the weather in Delhi because I find it polluted and I was sick as well. But overall experience was nice though.

I know, a lot of my friend lives in Delhi, so I want to hear from them....
