A stop in Peschiera Maraglio Lake Iseo Italy

Hello Dear Steemians hope you are doing well!!! Today I am going to tell you about my stop in Lake Iseo between the province of Brescia and Bergamo.

Its extension is around 65 km square. From Brescia we followed the way to Sulzano a small town in the south-eastern part of the lake.

We parked the car and we caught the ferry to go to Monte Isola (in Italian means Mount Island).

Monte Isola is 600 m above the sea level with a 4,5 km square of extention and situated in the center of the lake.

The island has many evidence of the lives of fishermen and peasants who during the Middle Age worked for monasteries and local royal familes. The first document of Roman settlement is listed in the monastery of Santa Giulia in Brescia and dated in the begining of X century a.C.

Around the X-XI century the family Oldofredi of Iseo built the two main strongholds. In 1400 the members of royal family Visconti came here to hunt. In the end of 1400 Francesco Sforza elimated fishing restrictions in the island. From 1800 the island began to be more densely inhabited with an economy mostly based on fishing and nowadays also tourism.

Arrived in the south-eastern part of the island at Peschiera Maraglio a town of fish and fishermen (according to its Italian name) which is 800m far from Sulzano the narrowest point of the lake.

The village reflect not only the idea of living with fishing activity. Its houses were built in the first half of 1800 and they are divided by narrows lanes which lead to the lake. People in the village to used to live also with boat and net manufacturing.

The important net manufacturers of the past have left their activities to smaller artisans but two wooden boat factories are still working. In the narrow lanes often joined by arches, vaults and stairs it is possible to see typical everyday life of local people.
But more surprisingly on the coastal walk I found some signs mentioning in Italian "Cats crossing" which I have never found before

Unfortunately we had to come back so we could not stay longer . We caught the ferry we took the car and we drove to Bergamo.

Thanks for your attention.

Yeah, well, smartphone photos are so smartphone. This is why I bought a proper camera. Requires more skill, though.

I am going to buy one "better" camera. I think about which one!! I agree with you it requires more skills which honestly I do not have yet but I am learning.

The history of your post is very interesting and informative. Good work, thanks for sharing.

That's so cute, they have a Cat Crossing! :)

I read in your earlier comment that you're looking for a better camera. In the meantime, I recommend Snapseed mobile app where you can enhance your smartphone photos. Your travel stories deserve more attention and I think people will notice it more with photos. As you have noticed in Steemit, the thumbnail of the post is important to catch someone's attention.

Thanks for your comment I check it out this app I agree with you about the thumbnail!

I really love this kind of scenery.
It looks a bit of Lake Como

Relaxing view

It is similar to Lake Como yes but this last one has a larger extension !!! :) :) Thanks for stopping by !! :) :)

As much as a smartphone doesnt give the same results as a prof. camera, I still love using it over my new camera:) I still have to learn its features a bit better so maybe thats why I havent gotten the hang of using it more often😄
