    I rember being in surat thani. We arrived from koh sok by minivan at the end of the morning and we had to wait for the night ferry to leave to the islands in te evening. I remebered there was really nothing to do haha. But we did not really leave the area of the ferry either.

            Some of my wifes family are from Surat, the rest in Songkhla and on Samui so its somewhere I often spend a few nights. Its like many provincial towns, it is what you make of it. It's real-life Thailand. The southerners can be a little more difficult to get along with but make an effort, as with anywhere, and they open up and are lovely.
            Great piece and lovely to see people posting about the non touristy places. Stay safe on your travels :-)
