Today I will tell you more about our New Zealand trip. As you may have seen (if you follow me), my last post was has been a while ago... But from now on there will be constistent updates about our trip and I am looking forward to it! Out last trip was to Lake Pukaki, where the famous Mount Cook is located. Lake Pukaki is an extremly beautiful lake with turquoise water. We have rarely seen such turquoise water in New Zealand or Australia, i can remember hokitika george well. The colours are easy to compare.

What we noticed very pleasant there, like everywhere else in New Zealand: There were few tourists there. This may also be due to the fact that Lake Pukaki is located in a large national park area. We were almost alone on the lake. We drove by car. I can only recommend using a car in New Zealand. We saw some tourists on our way in campers near the lake. I was a little jealous, but a camping car would have jumped our budget ;)

But now to the question we have been asking ourselves all the time in New Zealand: Why does a glacial lake always has a turqouise color? The turquoise blue color of the lake comes from the "glacier milk". Glacial milk is the gray or white cloudy drainage water from a glacier. The cloudiness arises from the transport of finely ground stone in the water. If this rock flour reaches calm, standing lakes, it accumulates in them. When sunlight hits the water, the rock powder mainly reflects the blue-green portions of the light, so that such lakes glow in a rich turquoise.

If you liked my post, I would be very happpy about an upvote or a comment ;)
