Yume no Tsuribashi

in #travelfeed5 years ago

This weekend, we went to Yume no Tsuribashi, this means dream suspension bridge in English. Its in the Tsumatakyo gorge. Its not too far away from Kawane and Ikawa, both places that I've been to this year right out in the mountains in Shizuoka prefecture.
The bridge itself is a pedestrian bridge, especially famous during the Autumn season for the nice leaves and colours.
We went on Saturday, the weather was really good and so the roads were crowded. The road leading to the bridge was especially crowded. Its just a mountain road which gets wider and narrower as it goes along, depending on the terrain its running through. At its narrower parts there's a man standing with a flag stopping cars. You have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes for the traffic going the other way to pass through before you can go yourself. This happened to us four times, so it takes a while to get to the car park.

The car park, or car parks, because its a really popular area, are about 1.5 km from the bridge. The route across the bridge is one way and once you cross the bridge, another 2km walk takes you back to the car park again. Its not a quick place to see.
The bridge is worth going to, however. There are some shops along the path, many hot springs, which are not too expensive at all, a park and some nice scenery before you get to the bridge.

Once at our destination, there was a queue to cross over the bridge as they only let 10 people at a time on to it.

I don't usually like crowded places too much, but this was actually OK. There were quite a lot of people, but not too many, the bridge is free, there's lots to see and the hot springs to use after the walk.
Overall, this is definitely a place to see if your in Shizuoka. Its a bit difficult to get to without a car, although there are busses going there which come from the local railway station, so you can go there using just public transport... But car is better.
