Week 1 - Beautiful British Columbia

in #travelfeed6 years ago (edited)

I know I'll look back on this and laugh one day...

Our 1977 GMC Security motorhome passed its safety inspection last Friday. We are now registered and on the road. And boy had I forgotten how stressful RV living can be.

We spent 3 days in Kelowna fixing things as they came up. I guess we were a little naive when it came to the condition of this car. Mechanically she seems excellent but we have discovered some major problems in the "home" part of this motorhome.

A valve in the toilet needed replacing. Easy enough. Then the hot water tank started leaking. No biggy, we thought. We'll just bypass the hot water tank and have cold showers. Then we tried to flush the waste water tank. It blew 2 holes. We've since had a go at repairing it. There's now 6 holes. The roof leaks in multiple places but we haven't had to sleep with buckets on our chests yet so that's a bonus.

At the end of the day, we have no running water but we have beds to sleep in, a kitchen to cook in, and a car to get us around. We have already found a couple of nice (and free) campgrounds along the way.

Begbie Falls Recreational Area, Revelstoke

Begbie Falls is a beautiful little rec area that allows overnight camping. The road in was a little bumpy but we made it down fine. And we were the only ones there! The surrounding forest is super lush and the creek running through was powering because of all the snow melt.

Kicking Horse River Crown Land, Golden

The camping at Kicking Horse River is right on the water and again, we had the place to ourselves for the night. We set up a fire and roasted s'mores over the flames. So good!

Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park

We stopped in at Emerald Lake on the way through Field. It looks so different this time of year! The lake is mostly still frozen but there was a little open water which made for some nice reflections.

Natural Bridge, Yoho National Park

Our last stop in British Columbia was at the Natural Bridge. It's a naturally formed rock bridge that crosses the Kicking Horse River.

Well our first week on the road was eventful to say the least. We are having a ball though and have already seen some amazing places.

And I've finally been able to restore my voting power on Steemit so sorry about the lack of votes lately. I had no idea it would take so long to get back to 100%. Looking forward to kicking back and reading all of your posts.

Alberta here we come!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it ❤

It looks a bit wet and cold out there. Did you take your showers in the Emerald Lake? ;)

The last couple of days have been freezing! We have a beautiful clear day today though so happy campers. Haha...showers were had in Begbie Falls and the Kicking Horse River. Cold cold cold 🤣

Congratulations for getting this old fellow to run!
Real achievement :)
I wish you have a wonderful RV experience with no more problems and a lot of great posts for steemit!

Thanks very much! It's definitely been challenging but it's more fun that way. Thanks for your well wishes. Full steem ahead 😉

Thank you. Yes 😀

I hope for you that the rest of the trip will be less eventful with regard to... say, the "mechanical parts" 😌
Great pics as usual and Emerald Lake looks stunning.
Drive safe and have fun (not worried about that part hehe)!

Ps: also, I learned the hard way, like you, that it takes one full day to restore 20% of voting power! Once you know that you become less trigger happy on the upvote! 😌

Haha me too! Thank you. Let's hope that's the end of it.

Yeah Emerald looked really cool. It was nice to see it in another season.

Gah it seemed to take forever to come back. I was definitely a little trigger happy. But back to normal now. I have some reading to catch up on.

Nice pictures of the lake)) good van

Thanks very much

Such an incredible journey! Thanks for sahring.

Thanks for reading!

Your motorhome looks like the Talbot we lived in a few years ago. Loved it. What a beautiful place you've got to tour. We're planning to do a Euro motorhome trip soon. Will enjoy following your journey :)

Oh how exciting. Europe would be an incredible place to tour around in a motorhome. Country to country...amazing!

I love the mountains and the lakes, very nice photos. Me and my partner are thinking to get a motor home and cruise Europe. Will make sure to check the condition of the "home" part! :)

Thanks very much. And how exciting for you. Yes definitely be sure to inspect it throughly. And ask as many questions as you can. We were a little too hasty and costs have added up quickly. I highly recommend it though. We love it, even with all the stresses 😁

If you ask me, a sure sign that a trip is going to be friggin amazing is how seemingly horrible it starts out.
Just viewing this post has really romanced me into wanting a road trip so bad!
Happy adventuring!

Cheers,
Speck.

Cheers Speck! I'll take the bad with the good. We're already having a laugh about the shitty things that have happened.

Hope to see you on the road soon!
