On The Road To Nomad - Day 4 (5/21/18) Tennessee to Kentucky to Illinios

in #travelfeed6 years ago (edited)

Day four was our second longest driving day thus far. We left Montgomery Bell State Park at 9:00 a.m. on the nose after another record breaking tear down.

See, I told you I had a ladder and no, I am NOT wearing the same clothes as day 2.

The 14 mile drive to the highway was winding, narrow and up and over many hills. At one point I had about 12 cars behind me because I was staying right at or just under the speed limit depending on the curves and turns. I know some people were calling me names.

TRAVELLER TIP # 3: Don't EVER worry about the people behind you, screw em, they can wait. Your safety and the safety of those around you is more important than trying to go faster because you're causing a little bit of a slow down. (I was never more than 2 or 3 MPH below the speed limit anyhow.

Once we hit the road it was pretty smooth sailing and it was only a little hairy on the outskirts of Nashville.

The drive was spectacularly scenic even though the day was overcast with pockets of light rain. A few hours into our trip we passed into Kentucky.

On our 2nd gas stop Julia took over the driving duties with just over 2 hours left to go until we reached our destination, the KOA in Granite City Illinois. Much to our surprise we realized with about what we thought was 70 minutes into our drive that our GPS never automatically switched time zones. BONUS! We just scored an hour. The look on Julias' face was priceless. She was so excited.

We parked the rig, set up (another record time) and ordered some pizza while Julia put all of our dirty dainties into the washing machine at the KOA while Nick went and jumped on the big bouncy ball of fun (or death, whichever comes first). In this case it was fun.

After dinner Nick and I went back over to the big bouncy ball of fun, which this time turned out to be death because I was wrecked after jumping on that thing for 20 minutes straight.

At the time of this writing it is just a little after 9:00 p.m. and we are going to hit the hay for the evening. All this travelling takes a lot energy.

Tomorrow our trip will take us to Lewis and Clark State Park in Missouri. We hope to see you there.

Miles travelled = 318

Until next time, we'll be seeing you... ON THE ROAD!

Where do you plan on heading in Illinois?

Granite City. We’re only here 1 night then off to our next destination. We are headed to Yellowstone National Park to workamp for the summer.

That's awesome, have a great trip!!
