Happy Saturday! Today I am going to tell you about one of the significant holidays in Sout Korea. I know that it's already passed but still...

In many countries it's on June 1st. But in Korea it is May 5th. And it is the day when Koreans don't go to work or university. Everyone has a day off.
May 5th, South Korea wishes all the best to all children in the world, so today the streets in Korea are filled with happy children.
Children's Day in Korea began to celebrate in 1923, the initiator was a teacher and writer Park John Hwang. He was the first who started to propagandize the idea of appreciating and respecting the younger generation, ceasing to command and demand absolute obedience. He said that young people should also be reckoned with, their point of view, their personality should be respected. Then the children's day was May 1st.

Park D.H. created a special organization that dealt with issues of children and youth.

In those days, many families did not have the money to buy books for children or give education. Therefore, Park D.H. organized performances based on different tales and stories. The children themselves took part in these performances.
However, in 1937 the holiday was canceled. Japanese colonization began in the country. And only after 9 years, Children's Day again became the red calendar day, and since then it is celebrated every May 5th.

And so far on this day, children arrange shows or go to theaters, a zoo, a circus and other entertainment places.

Happy children's Day!

P.S.: When you travel it is good to know about your destination country's holidays or special events, so you don't face some inconveniences, and can experience even more that on the usual day.
