Rio de Janeiro the wonderful city

Rio de Janeiro is the wonderful city. A fantastic, captivating and interesting place, much of the Brazilian culture was born here. There is a lot to see, like the architecture of various eras. It is a city to stay 5 to 7 days, visited by brazilians and foreigners. During my trip I crossed people from Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Russia, United States, Japan, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and even people from Germany.

It is a city that I enjoyed for 9 days during April to May 2019, it is wonderful to change the cold of Buenos Aires for the warmth of the carioca autumn. And when I have the opportunity to leave Argentina, I don't hesitate to go to Brazil, its landscapes, its warm beaches, its friendly and well-prepared people, its rich and varied cuisine.

During this trip I was able to discover in Rio at every step, buildings from different periods, especially from the colonial period, a beautiful and giant cathedral, the sambodrome, the Maracaná stadium and of course the Christ the Redeemer or Corcovado (in this post you will see it).

One of the obligatory visits are the free tours through the old center of the city. There you will see the remains of the old slave port, the first building built by a black architect, the salt stairs and even houses from the colonial era. Today it has been revalued, with a train that runs through the area, large murals (even in this area is the first skyscraper in Rio de Janeiro). Very close to this square is the art museum of Rio de Janeiro (MAR) (10 reais the entrance for over 21 and under 60, about 2.5 USD) and also the museum of Tomorrow (20 reais to enter idem previous, about 5 USD), whose tickets are free every Tuesday.

From the MAR museum you can see the central square of Baron Mauá (Irineu Evangelista de Souza), a great businessman from the time of the Brazilian empire. Near this area there are informal shops and also fast food stores where you can have lunch for 25 reais, (about 6 USD).

From there you must take the subway and after touring the center in the morning go to the beautiful beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema from noon to beautiful sunset. But you can see diferent realities going to favelas (poor emergency villages inside Rio).

And the Jesuschrist Redentor (Corcovado) one of the biggest images of Jesus around the world.

On the border between Copacabana and Ipanema is located the headquarters of the Brazilian Navy in Rio de Janeiro with their respective weapons museum. The naval part of the museum has free entrance with guide (in Portuguese) from 11 am. The entire tour takes approximately two and a half hours.

Obviously there are many more things to see but that will remain for a second delivery of this new shipment, although the best thing would be for you to come and soak yourself in the wonderful city, its people, its music, its food and its vibrant and colorful streets. Rio's bars deserve a special mention, as is Ipanema's La Garota, the bar where Antônio Carlos Jobim's and Vinicius de Moraes' homonymous song was written, but this will be a second of several parts related to Rio de Janeiro and its near places.
