Cruising the Bangkok Streets.

in #travelfeed5 years ago (edited)

Today was a social meet up with a couple of Steemit boys @worldcapture had texted me the day before and was telling me that his friend @jpphotography was flying into Bangkok from Germany for the Steemfest and if like to join them for Sunday lunch i thought why not it's always nice to meet your friends in person that you chat on Steemit almost daily so i wasn't going to let this opportunity slide by so we where going to make a day of it , we met in the mid-town of Bangkok had a nice lunch and a couple of beers and had plan to head over to the "Ghost Tower" by the Chaophraya River.

It's known as the The Haunted Skyscraper or The Ghost Tower it's a mysterious abandoned 49 story skyscraper that rises high into the clouds it all when pear shaped due to corruption then the homeless and drug addicts move in and a few die in there through suicide or overdosing thus got the name Ghost Tower by the locals.

On arrival @worldcapture was determined to get in and climb up the tower which would be awesome if you could get away with it but this is not possible unless you want to get arrested for trespassing and land yourself a criminal record so we talked him out of it and moved on. You can find this tower near the Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain Station.

We decide to go and see some stone wall graffiti which was walking distance from where we were , just as we were heading their the skies decided to open up on us so we were stuck by the side of the road admiring the bucket loads of rain and i mean bucket loads.

Nice American Mustang passed us "The Bumblebee".

Someone was busy putting there makeup on or having a snort of coke...lol :)))))

The rain had eased of enough for us to continue our walk as we were approaching this huge post office @worldcapture needed to do a number 2 so i told him you can go and off loaded in the mail exchange package it and sent it back home to your government :)

@jpphotography and myself waited outside taking some photos and i was trying to keep the poor fella awake after his long flight from Germany he was tired straight of the plane and into the madness of Bangkok city.

As we headed further up the road it started bucketing down again we had to make a scramble for cover again near a pier by the river.

We were stuck at this boat pier for nearly a hour it had eased off enough for us to make a move again before @jpphotography sank further into his chair snoring. We needed to find him a good strong black coffee as he said.

We had come to the graffiti that has been man made with hammers and chisels how perfect and awesome is this it done on the French Embassy wall just amazing.

Walking towards China Town through all these back alleys not really knowing where we were going to end but seeing some nice graffiti work on the way and still trying to find a coffee shop for @jpphotography at this stage he was dragging himself along half asleep...lol :)

Just as almost @jpphotography nearly fell to the side of the alley for a sleep we come upon this sign saying "Baan Rim Naam" their got to have a strong black coffee in here to wake the kid up.

This place was amazing we really didn't know what we were walking into i think the surprise of this place not only woke @jpphotography up but also lite up @worldcapture face and my.

The boys when to the bar and ordered their black coffees and i just walked around in maze of this place it absolutely rocked in the way it was fitted out.

I was talking to the owner and he was telling me the Baan Rim Naam is the last remaining warehouse from the early 19th century King Rama II . This warehouse is 200 years old and they have turned in into a relaxing drinking atmosphere by the Chaophraya river and not only signature homemade cocktails but the great snacks and traditional curries and set menus a great night out by the river.

They have a great variety of Vinyl music on the old school turntables from the 70's through to the 90's very smoothing and funky for every occasion.

They even have their own gardens where they grow all there own fresh herbs and is also a outdoor seating area very romantic indeed.

Well after the double shot black coffee @jpphotography had he was well awake and ready to go to work with his photography work but unfortunately the day was almost over.

It was time to make a move and get back into them back alleys of Bangkok that are always bustling with surprises like this alley we couldn't work out if it was a spare parts graveyard or someone trying to make graffiti out of spare parts but whatever it just looked memorizing.

Never in my life have i seen so many wheel bearing , brake pads , clutch bearings , gearbox bearings and the list goes on just phenomenal.

We hadn't realized we had walked so far over 10km and had ended up in China Town area it was really buzzing around this area it was close to dinner time and all the vendors were out in full force.

Even came across some nice Chinese graffiti art work.

Just when @jpphotography was wide awake and hard at work photographing everything in sight it was time to go home @worldcapture was starting to get into a panic as he needed to get back to the bus terminal to take a specific bus to take him back to his province about 2 hours out of Bangkok.

I said to @worldcapture this is your ride back to your province but he wasn't impressed...lol...i said it's a old classic it will get you there :)))

It was a great day spend with a couple great guys thanks guys hope we can do it again soon and hope the old classic got you home safe Chris :)))

What an awesome tour, thanks for sharing!! Abandoned buildings, graff and warehouse cafes are right up my rainy alley. Jet lags a shocker... what an adventure you took them on Day 1!

Very cool walkabout...
Graffiti is always cool to shoot, and that French Embassy wall one was great! Ohhh, you'll have lots more visitors in town soon for Steemfest!! :)

Apart form the day being spoiled by rain a bit , but it did make it better for photographing it turned out a superb day are you going to be here for the Steemfest ??

Looks like a great day if happening. Sadly, while tall building gives good view, some bring suicidal attempt.

Was the best we did cover some distance ever though it rain quite a bit yesterday and yep these abandon building are a invite for suicidal acts unfortunately.

There we go! What a cool post man! Seeing your photos makes me wonder again why I'm carrying around this 3.5kg brick of a camera :D - Anyway - Thanks again for the great day!
