Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok (Poland)

On the next day of our vacation in the Bieszczady we decided to go to the largest open-air museum of old construction in Poland. From our guest house on Lake Solina we had to travel about 35 kilometers to the city of Sanok. The museum in Sanok is the largest of its kind in Poland. The whole area of ​​the museum covers an area of ​​about 38 hectares and is open to visitors throughout the year, even in winter. In the two photos above you can see the Galician Market from the 19th century. It consists of 26 reconstructed wooden buildings from the Galician market with all their functions and interiors containing the original 19th-century decor.

In the next two photos above we can see the interiors of historic industrial buildings. The first picture shows a pharmacy, and the second one is a grocery store from the 19th century. The items in the pictures are real and are not reconstructions. Visiting the historic interiors, you can really feel like we're going back in time. The interior design is very realistic. Each subsequent building surprises with various curiosities. You can explore the buildings alone or with a guide who tells about each place very interesting stories that are really worth listening to.

In the next two photos, the interior of the clothing store and presbytery from the nineteenth century. As you can see, the museum shows what people's lives looked like in Polish villages about 100 years ago. In addition to the interiors shown here, among others, there is a post office, commune office, fire station, blacksmith, locksmith, carpentry shop, hairdresser, tailor, shoemaker, watchmaker and photographer. In each of these buildings we will move to the nineteenth century. It's a fascinating place full of secrets. Outside the interiors, there are many buildings from that time that have been preserved in their original form.

In the following photos we can see the church from Rosolin (original from 1750). In 1957, the whole building was moved to the open-air museum in Sanok. It is a Greek Catholic wooden church made of fir wood. In the photo below we can see a country house from the 19th century, which has been preserved in its original condition. It is a wooden object made on a stone foundation. The roof is covered with straw thatched roofs. The stylization of the areas around the buildings also aims to show the landscape of the Polish countryside from the 19th century.

In the next photos above we can see more similar buildings from that period. In addition, we see the original wooden windmill from Urzejowice from 1934. A walk along the open-air museum paths causes that we forget about reality and everything we see here gives a sense of the previous era. Good weather is needed to visit the open part of the museum. I had good weather that day and you could see everything. And there is what. The entire exhibition is over 100 buildings. You have to spend the whole day here to view them all. Tourist paths are about 20 kimometers long here!

The last photo is a well-preserved shingle-covered country house from the beginning of the 20th century. The garden was mapped to reflect the realism of the scenery from that time. At the end I wanted to show you a map of the entire museum. As you can see, the area to explore is huge and I can recommend this place for a full-day trip for entire families. Museum is prepared for the arrival of foreign tourists. Here you can learn the stories of various regions of Poland and Central Europe. There are really many interesting places here and I think that nobody will be bored here, especially tourists who like to explore historical places.
