Exploring and Observation Biodiversity Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS) Mount Kerinci 3805 Mdpl, Jambi Indonesia. | EXPLORE KERINCI #4
Mount Kerinci is one of the highest mountains in Indonesia, whose height is 3,805 Mdpl (12,484 Feet). Mount Kerinci is also included in the Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS), as well as being the highest on the island of Sumatra. The forests of Indonesia are famous for the tropical rain forests that contain many fauna and flora, no wonder many tourists come here. Mount Kerinci is located in Kerinci district of Jambi, Indonesia. Mount Kerinci is also a dream and the target of every mountain climber, because the mountain kerinci included in the list of the Seven Peaks of the highest mountain in Indonesia.
Tuesday November 27, 2017 me and my team just finished exploring Mount Seven and Lake Seven Mountain. We head straight to the climbing Basecamp to take a break and make preparations to continue the exploration to Mount Kerinci.
Mount kerinci still covered with fog and heavy rain. We continue to monitor the development of mountain kerinci weather from the front of Mak Jus basecamp, because from the front of Basecamp clearly visible mountain peak kerinci.
Wednesday 28 November 2017, Me and the team are ready to continue the ascent. From Mak Jus basecamp we will go to Tiger Monument and go straight to R10 (Start Point). We will stay overnight and monitor the weather conditions of the mountains of R10.
The distance from Tiger monument to R10 is quite far away, so we have to be escorted by car there. We found a strategic lodge to stay overnight, considering the condition of the mountains of kerinci is still not safe to climb.
We've been staying at R10 for a day, but the weather is still not normal. We'll stay another day there, while waiting for the weather to be a bit better.
We are a little more relaxed there, so that our condition is maintained. We interviewed every newly climbed climber from Mount Kerinci, their answer "Failed to peak" because the Storm still rumbles from Shelter 2 to the top. The descriptions of each new climber down all the same, fail and fail to peak. But it does not discourage me and the team to continue the journey.
Day 1, 30 November 2017
I and the team have 2 days in R10, we will continue the ascent to Mount Kerinci. We'll head to the Climbing Gate or the Jungle Door (climber term). The jungle is the starting point of climbing, said the jungle door because of the boundary between community plantations and forest areas of TNKS.
Our habit of climbing the mountain, at the door of the jungle we pray for safety and success to the top. From the jungle door we will go to the Post of Panjang, we will rest there for a while. The long journey from the Jungle Door to the Post of Panjang for 1 hour runs normally.
Not taking long breaks in Pos 1 Bangku Panjang, we had to continue our journey to Pos 2 Batu Lumut. According to information from National Park officials, in Post 1 Bangku Panjang is a place that is often visited Sumatran Tiger. So try not to rest too long there.
The journey from Pos1to Post 2 Moss Stones takes 1 hour to walk normally.
Just take a break in Pos 2, we have to continue the trip to Post 3 Pondok Panorama. We will cook and have lunch there. The line is still not very uphill, so we have plenty of energy and time to get to Shelter 1.
From Post 2 to Post 3 quite long tracking it, almost 2 hours we got there. We met a lot of climbers in Pos 3, some have just climbed and some have gone down. As always, we always ask about the condition of Kerinci Peak. On average they fail to the top, and a new climb will pit your fate as well as our team.
So far there are only a few animals seen, whereas from Post 1 to Post 3 is a hunting area of Sumatran Tiger. I only saw the squirrel and the birds voice, and even then did not have time to take pictures because of the limitations of the camera.
Me and the team have been enjoying lunch at Pos 3, we will continue our journey to Shelter 1. We will camp overnight there and check points there. Tracking this time is getting hard and far, so me and the team must be up before dark to Shelter 1. The long journey from Pos 3 to Shelter 1 is 3 hours and a half normal walk.
We made it to Shelter 1, we got there before dark. We will spend the night at Shelter 1, because from here we can monitor the weather to Puncak. That night there was a rumbling breeze on the trees still in Shelter 1, but we were safe that night. After dinner, me and the team will sleep. The next day we will continue our journey to Shelter 2, and if the weather is good we will continue our journey to Shelter 3.
DAY 2, 31 November 2017
One day we passed with difficulty, we will continue the journey to Shelter 2. From Shelter 1 to Shelter 2 route is very long, so we continue on the second day.
Several other teams have started to move to Shelter 2 that morning, we still want to enjoy the atmosphere in Shelter 2. After lunch we will continue the trip, this is my way and the team while climbing the mountain.
The path to Shelter 2 is the most difficult path to climb Mount Kerinci, all climbers will know its tracks how. In addition, his place to set up camp is not widespread, only fit 8 camps only.
Although his tracks are difficult and long, but we are not tired of facing him. Every time we stop there is always a panorama that makes us tired lost, although we have to fall asleep when walking.
During the journey from Shelter 1 to Shelter 2, I and the team had observations around the course. Only mushrooms and have found Sumatran Edelweis flower vegetation.
Throughout the journey to Shelter 2 we can already feel the rain and storm, because according to storm information ranging from Shelter 2 to Puncak Kerinci. Me and the team managed to arrive at shelter 2, some set up camps and some did other activities such as taking drinking water and turning the fire on.
My first night and the team at Shelter 2, the rain and high winds still rumble. We were very difficult to get out of the camp, the night was very cold. After dinner we will rest completely until tomorrow morning, considering the condition of the team that was tired.
DAY 3, 31 November 2017
In the morning I woke up fast, I still hear the roar of the wind and the rain still has not subsided. We just wake up to eat, chatting in a tent, and sleeping. We did not continue on to the summit that day, because the climate was not good.
DAY 4, 01 Desember 2017
As usual, I get up early to check the weather. Still like the first day, strong winds and rain are still durable. We have not got to the top, we have to be patient. This is our second day at Shelter 2, we have to survive again till the next day. My activities and the team cook, sleep and interview the climbers who descend. We did not even take pictures, considering battery saving.
DAY 5, 02 Desember 2017
Our third night at Shelter 2, we still stay here. We made the decision the next day to continue our journey to Shelter 3, despite the storm and the rain. The morning we were up and packing the necessities to be brought. We just want to monitor the state of Shelter 3, as we have only heard the weather conditions in Shelter 3 of each climber failing to peak.
The first time me and the team through the Goa Root path, I like to dream because before I just listen and see on the internet about root cave.
The path to Shelter 3 is very dangerous, so we have to be careful through it. For half an hour we passed the root cave, only then we felt the vegetation is just overgrown with Cantigi trees, yellow flowers and Sumatran Edelweis Flowers.
The weather began to improve, we could see clearly around. We are already at an altitude of 3,200 and above, forest vegetation was already visible. We almost got to Shelter 3, a strong wind was felt here.
There are several types of plants that I get along the path, there are even tree roots that are predicted to be decades old. I had time
observation along the path to Shelter 3,
Finally we arrived at Shelter 3, the storm was still rumbling great. Me and the team are looking for a safe place to take shelter and lunch. We had to turn right to shelter from the storm. The distance from Shelter 2 to Shelter 3 was pretty close, only 1 hour and a half we got there. We are already at an altitude of 3400 masl, I have started to feel the cold that increases.
We enjoyed lunch at Shelter 3 in the thick fog and rainstorms, this is a hard experience I forget.
I successfully survey in shelter 3, the result I found edelweiss flower vegetation and canteen flowers in shelter 3.
We still stay in Shelter 3, we are waiting for the weather to be a bit good. It was late afternoon, we decided to pass through the storm to the top. From shelter 3 we will go to Batu Gantung and to Tugu Yuda.
One by one team members passed through the storm, all still looking vibrant and healthy. Suddenly all hollow, slowly fog began to disappear. This is fortune, we've been through the storm.
The weather was not yet normal at that time, sometimes it was sometimes foggy. When it was almost dark, we had to walk rather quickly to get to Tugu Yuda (3,600 mdpl).
From along the path we continue to be presented a beautiful panorama, one of the sea clouds and sunset. This rare climb is done, because National Park officials prohibit climber does not peak during the afternoon and evening. We did not hear the instructions from the officers, but we were ready to go down.
A lot of time delay when heading to Tugu Yuda, We managed to arrive there at 6:00 pm. The day is getting dark, we have to make the decision to continue the trip to the top or down. From Tugu Yuda already visible clear Peak Kerinci.
Take a break to decide the next plan, my hands have started to freeze from the cold. We are already at an altitude of 3,600 Mdpl. Eventually all members of the team agreed to go to the top, whatever the risks. At 7:00 pm we got to the top of the kerinci, we all prostrated gratitude. We did not expect that we could reach the highest peak of Sumatra, we were at an altitude of 3,805 Mdpl.
Something we did not expect when we got there, that night the sky was very bright and it was a full moon that night.
The climb this time was the most incredible climb in my life. Usually other climbers enjoy Sunrise, we enjoy Sunset. Me and the team also enjoy the Full Moon at the summit. Soon we got the flashlight code from below, we had to go down. We had time to enjoy a cup of coffee at Tugu Yuda, before going down to Shelter 3 and back to Shelter 2. That night we did not go straight to Basecamp, because it was dangerous during the night journey. The Sumatran tigers are spending at night, so we have to stay at Shelter 2 one more night. We will continue the journey down the next day.
We made it to the top and managed to get down safely to the bottom. We got a reprimand from the Kerinci Seblat National Park officer, instead we were told the Craziest Climber. No one made the climb during the afternoon until night, We are the only one who succeeded. Thank you @irwanumpal, @dikamtp, Sulam Suska, Arif TapakBa and Ketol Umpal who have struggled in this ascent.
