Happy New Year! Feel the warmth of San Andres Island 🌴 (Part 1: Meet LOLA The Manta Ray)
Hey guys, it's the start of the new and so cold here in Montreal.... the coldest in 146 years! For at least a week the temperature did not get warmer than -17 C.
Other than staying indoors and staying confortable, I decided to book a week vacation in Cuba for February.. it helps to endure the cold!
That being said, I wanted to share with you the last time I was fortunate enough to see the sea: San Andres island. Perfect timing to reminisce and share with you, keeps me warm!
In 2016 I spent a month in Colombia for the first time, and after spending a week in Bogota, I flew to the San Andres to enjoy some relaxation.
San Andres Island is situated in the Caribbean Sea. Although it is a Colombian Island, the island is actually closer to Nicaragua and quite a gem if you one day have the chance to visit. The island is not very big, being 26 square kilometres. If you rent a golf cart, you can drive around the whole island in about 2 hours.
Mar de 7 colores
San Andres is renown for "El Mar De 7 Colores", which means sea of 7 colors. I'll let the pictures do the explaining.
The island is not yet fully developed and has yet to reach it's full potentiel. It is mainly visited by Colombian and South American tourists looking for a quick getaway. Most people spend an average of 5 days on the island. The day I was supposed to leave to go to Cartagena, I decided to extend my trip for an extra 5 days because I enjoyed the magic and relaxation of such a small and warm island.
Although the island is relatively small, it is surrounded by the most beautiful see I have had the chance to know. Many activities are available, like the "aquarium in the sea", where you walk around all kinds of fishies and can even swim with Manta Rays. I actually thought we were going to visit an actual aquarium (in a building), so I was shocked when they dropped us off in the middle of the sea LOL.
Meet LOLA!

Only -8 or so but windchill is -20, so it is nearly flip flop weather again.
