Sightseeing! Venturing to the "Scarborough Bluffs"

in #travel7 years ago

Hello Steemians!

You would never imagine that there's a geological history in Toronto. There's a spectacular cliff called "Scarborough Bluffs" on Lake Ontario that exists!

A Brief History about the Scarborough Bluffs

The layers of sand and clay exposed in these bluffs display a geological record of the last stages of the Great Ice Age.  Unique in North America, they have attracted world-wide scientific interest.  The first 46 metres (150 feet) of sediments contain fossil plants and animals that were deposited in a large river delta during the first advance of the Wisonsinan glacier some 70,000 years ago.  They are covered by 61 metres (200 feet) of boulder clay and sand in alternating layers left by four subsequent advances and retreats of the ice.  The final withdrawal of the glacier occurred some 12,000 years ago. This place has an awesome view from the top of the Bluffs or drive down to the bottom to explore the beach and park area. A great place for a family picnic/BBQ, hike or walk to the beach - Just make sure to get there as early as possible since they have limited parking available.

We made our first stop at the top of the hill. I never knew there could be such a beautiful and peaceful place nestled within the city.

The view is GORGEOUS! Absolutely STUNNING!!

There were some people walking onto the edge of the cliff, which can be dangerous!

We were there relaxing and enjoying the view from the top, before journeying to the bottom of the Bluffs. There's a nice pathway along the water that leads you to the beach.

This place definitely has one of the most beautiful views in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada and would recommend for anyone visiting Toronto to make a stop at the Scarborough Bluffs.
