The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: COLOMBIA

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

The Good: Colombia is a great bang for your buck. Especially this year in 2017. As the dollar has risen about 30% vs the Colombia Peso. So in terms of extending your travel for your money this is excellent. Finding decent accommodation for 10 dollars and less a night all over the country is not difficult. Food is cheap, for example I bought 3 green apples for 30 cents where neighboring countries like Panama and Ecuador it will cost you about a dollar. 1/4 roast chicken with sides will run you about 2 dollars, where in Panama it's more than double.

The Bad: I wan not impressed by their culture. Which is one of the most important things to me as a world traveler. They are generally rough and tough with years of violence and corruption riddled throughout society it's taken it's tole on the people. Obviously there are many very nice and well mannered Colombians I have met. On average you get a lot of people that are corrupt and morally bankrupt. Meaning they'll lie, steal, and cheat with no problem. Younger men are most interested in tatoos and their street image. Prostitution and gambling is legal and culturally it's reflected.

The Ugly: In the main cities there is a huge devide between the "haves" and the "have-nots". They have a big poverty problem, and a big homeless problem. Just take a look at the photos I took in 30 minutes walking around an average area in Medellin. Other places this was 90% of the population, so bad I didn't even want to take my phone out of my pocket. Need I say more.

I thinks there is always like this in every nation,

Manila philipines has it..
Around the world

Sadly there are several billion people on the planet living in similar conditions. But most of us in the western world have no idea. On a further note, I absolutely disagree, "always like this in every nation" You will not see anything like this in Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Belgium .....and countries of a similar ilk. Even Panama City and Ecuador two neighboring countries are 100x better. Medellin Colombia is a rough town, just like Manila.

To me, a nation is always like a house

There will be a dirty kitchen,
Ther will be a garbage bin,
And always have a garbage pit,

It is not always the government to be blame to what happen on the invidual like in your shots taken,

First, let's see the other side of a coin..
