That must have been an adventure! I have made such trips in the American southwest, including along a very difficult, narrow road down a mountainside I still have nightmares about after ten years! The photographs show the desolate countryside. It does not seem to be a trip a beginning adventurer should attempt alone!
Indeed, one is better not to travel in such places to alone, for security reasons. But if there is someone to go with, it's worth it to see!
How long was the travel and how many kilometers?
The travel lasted 7 days (this time), but I can not say for sure about the distance, because I'm not a driver and I dont interested it. But I think, if from Barnaul to the pass Katu-Yaryk, kilometers ~700, and in one way (and not counting the fact that we drove to Chemal at the beginning of the road, which is on another path).
