The Flinders Ranges in South Australia
The Flinders ranges is in South Australia. It stretches for over 430 km and starts at Crystal brook in the south to Mount Hopeless in the north. It is the largest mountain range in South Australia. The highest point is 1,171 m
The first European explorers of the ranges were an exploration party from Matthew Flinders' HMS Investigator.
The Flinders Ranges was named by Governor Gawler after Matthew Flinders.
Within the ranges are many towns and small cities. Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Port Germein, Wilpena pound, Hawker, Quorn are just a few.

Certain parts of the Ranges have protected area status.
The ranges also have many scenic tracks for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. These photos are of Telowie Gorge which is in between The Napperby township and the Port Germein township.
The Flinders Ranges has very hot, dry summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures can exceed 40 °C. while winters have highs around 13–16 °C , depending on the elevation. Rainfall is eratic. The area gets around 250 mm of rain annually. Although very rare, snow has fallen in the Ranges. The last significant snowfall was in 1995.
Plant species are adapted to a semi-arid environment. Plant life consists of Cypress pine, Mallee, Sugar gum, Salt bush, just to name a few.
Wild life consists of Kangaroos, Wallaby, Emu, Possums, Parrots, Snakes, Lizards, Eagles, Hawks, Galahs, Kookaburra's, Frogs, Water birds and many more. Introduced animals such as Foxes, Rabbits, Hares and Goats also live in the Ranges.

even though the rangers suffers from scorching hot summers, bush fires, droughts and floods it still always looks beautiful.
