Magnificent Bali!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians,

In this blog I would like to share our experiences with our trip to Bali. This trip was taken several years ago before we had kids. We had such a wonderful time and a definitely had a lot of fun....this trip will never be forgotten!

Our trip started by visiting Kuala Lumpur. We booked our stay with the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur. The Dorset is situated in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur.

The Hotel was big but quite nice. We had a view on the (tips) Petronas Towers. As this was a stopover we only stayed for 3 days before we continued our journey to Denpasar.

The Dorsett is located along Bintang Walk, a 5-minute walk from Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, a 10-minute walk from Berjaya Times Square and Sungei Wang Plaza. It is a 50-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Jalan Bukit Bintang

So what do you do in Kuala Lumpur??? Yes indeed, shopping......The main shopping district is located at Jalan Bukit Bintang.

Bukit Bintang is a district in Kuala Lumpur and forms basically the center of the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur . The center of Kuala Lumpur is also known as the Golden Triangle. Jalan Bukit Bintang is situated within this triangle.

Batu Caves

And ofcourse, just as any other tourist we visited the Batu Caves. It was a hell of a climb but since we were in KL we just might as well visit this complex.

The Batu Caves are a series of caves , about 15 km north of Kuala Lumpur , in the district of Gombak from Malaysia .

The biggest cave, the temple or Cathedral Cave, is 400 meters long and 100 meters high and can be reached by a stairs of 272 steps!. At the bottom of the stairs there is a large statue of the war god Murugan . It's a sacred place and at the cave the annual Hindu Thaipusamfestival is celebrated.

Thean Hou Temple

Thean Hou Temple is a Chinese temple complex in Kuala Lumpur . It has six floors and has an area of approx. 6760 sqm. The temple was completed in 1987 and officially opened in 1989. Owned and managed by the Selangor & Federal Territory Hainan Association ( Persatuan Hainan Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan ). In the main prayer hall of the temple there are three large sculptures. In the middle Mazu, Guanyin at the left and at the right is the statue of Tian Shui Wei Sheng Niang .

Kuala Lumpur was nice but not our final destination. I would not recommend staying there for more than 3 days.

Off we go to our next destination @ Denpasar.

@ Bali
Everyone will probably know where Bali is located. Our main stay was located in Sanur. One of the more popular places in Bali and located at the south of the island.

We had booked our stay with a small apartment complex managed by a Dutch women. This place is called Baliberg Villa. The complex consists out of several small apartments and 1 main villa.

Temples

Pura Tanah Lot

Pura Tanah Lot is a Balinese temple (pura) on the west coast of Bali . It lies in the sea on top of a rock.

At low tide the temple can be reached crossing a sand bank. Your feet will get wet! However access is limited to the first five meters of the mini island. In the accessible part there is a 'cave' with a magical source. Although the temple is located in the sea, fresh water comes from this waterspring.

Mount batur

Mount Batur is an active volcano at Lake Batur (Danau Batur). The volcano is located in the center of two concentric calderas at the northwest of the Agung (Gunung means mountain). Gunung Batur is 1717 meters high. The volcano is regularly active and its last eruption was in 2000.

Monkey Forest Ubud

Just steps away from the center of Ubud is the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. A beautiful piece of nature and home to hundreds of cheeky monkeys. At this idyllic spot you can make beautiful walks through the dense forest, and you will witness the antics of its inhabitants.

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is one of the most famous landmarks on the island of Bali . The island has several of these forests where the gray macaques live with their long tails, however this monkey forest in the south of Ubud is the best known.

Be careful! These monkeys can get quite aggressive!

Of course there is a lot more to do but my story is getting a bit long....

As you travel through Indonesia or on your vacation to Bali the Gili Islands are definitely worth a visit. The three islands; Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are about 35 kilometers from Bali and 14 kilometers of Senggigi in Lombok. Are you fond of clear blue water, white sand, palm trees and huts on the beach? Then this is the ultimate place to enjoy a few days. The Gili islands are truly paradise. It is quite a touristy and not off the beaten track destination but you will certainly have the time of your life!

We have enjoyed our last days in Indonesia at Gili Trawangan before heading home...

We clearly enjoyed our holiday and obviously my photographic skills suck; ).....However I think this gives a good impression of the wonderful island of Bali.

Hope you've enjoyed reading this post!

Trip was something to remember indeed...taking a shower outdoor was a bit strange in the beginning....Room at Gili was fairly standard....but we didn't spent a lot of time in the room...; )
