Statuesque Applefest - Travel in Pennsylvania
Fall in Pennsylvania
Saturday I had the opportunity to visit the annual Applefest in Franklin, Pennsylvania. The drive is approximately an hour and a half from my apartment. My friend Sue invited me to attend with her and her son and his girlfriend.
I wasn't sure what to expect. The place was packed and parking limited. There was live music in the park, geared for the older generation, it sounded almost operatic, but pleasant background music. Tents were positioned all over the park and streets were blocked for the event, similar to Erie Days last month.
Muliple food vendors everywhere sold traditional fair-type food; whole turkey legs, sweets, and french fries as well as fresh fudge, sausage sandwiches and gyros. Of course, there were apples, lots and lots of apples, along with other garden vegetables for sale.
Food prices were pretty high, which is expected at an event of this nature. We opted out of purchasing meals there. Instead we wandered through the maze of vendors hawking their wares. There was everything crafty, such as art and jewelry, wood working and clothing. Some was reasonably priced, others not so much. I gravitated to the art tables and photography and met the artists. Sue came away with a new necklace and charms for her bracelet.
The statue above was central to the park and very lovely to behold with its fountain spray. I stood to admire it as long as I could in that milling crowd.
This pirate ship was hand crafted and the sale price is $2,300. I don't think the artist sold it yesterday. The booth had all manner of hand welded metal figures.
I'm glad I was able to go and see what Applefest consisted of.
