Palermo es una ciudad bulliciosa, caótica, descuidada en la parte más antigua de la ciudad, que impresiona un poco al principio, aunque luego aprendes a convivir en ese desorden.

La Catedral de Palermo es un edifico imponente construido en el siglo XII, que ha sufrido varias modificaciones a lo largo de los siglos. Se construyó al mismo tiempo que el Duomo de Monreale.

Hay un pórtico de estilo gótico aragonés del siglo XV en una portada muy bonita.

La Catedral de Palermo es el único monumento siciliano que ha conservado intacto el estilo árabe-normando en su fachada. El arte fatimí se conserva impoluto, mientras que en el resto de Europa se ha perdido. Una técnica muy utilizada en la época fue la decoración empleando incrustaciones de piedra volcánica sobre molduras de piedra de piedra caliza y también se puede observar en el campanario de la iglesia de Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio).

El pórtico de la Catedral es lo más bello, para mi gusto. Es estilo aragonés del siglo XV. Tiene 3 arcos, con dos torres a los lados que nos recuerdan a las esquinas de la Catedral. Sobre los arcos hay una moldura que está decorada con el árbol de la vida y algunos escudos. Y por encima hay un témpano de forma triangular, pero no muy puntiagudo. Esta forma achatada es, para mí, lo más bello.
The portico of the Cathedral is the most beautiful, for my taste. It is Aragonese style of the fifteenth century. It has 3 arches, with two towers on the sides that remind us of the corners of the Cathedral. On the arches there is a molding that is decorated with the tree of life and some shields. And above is a floe of triangular shape, but not very pointed. This flattened shape is, for me, the most beautiful.
En el interior de la Catedral de Palermo, aunque no lo indican demasiado en las guías, no debéis perderos el Meridiano solar. Se construyó para estandarizar la medida del tiempo y del calendario. El sistema empleado es bastante sencillo: por un pequeño orificio en una de las cúpulas entra un rayo de sol que ilumina el piso a nivel de una línea que recorre el suelo de norte a sur. Los extremos de esta línea determinan los solsticios de verano e invierno.
Inside the Cathedral of Palermo, although they do not indicate it too much in the guides, you should not miss watching the Solar Meridian. It was built in order to standardize the measurement of time and calendar. También es muy Interesante la visita a los sarcófagos reales donde están enterrados los reyes normandos Roger II (hijo del conquistador de Sicilia) y su hija Constanza I.

Los sarcófagos se encuentran en pequeños templetes enmarcados por columnas de mosaicos dorados. Los mosaicos tienen pan de oro en las teselas para aumentar el brillo

También están enterrados los reyes suavos (Federico II (nieto de Roger II) que fue un rey cultísimo y que llegó a ser el emperador del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico, Constanza II de Aragón (su esposa) y Enrique VI (padre de Federico II).

Federico II tuvo un personalidad carismática y fascinante dando lugar a un personaje mítico. Durante su reinado hubo una gran actividad e innovación legislativa artística y cultural, destinada a unificar las tierras y los pueblos, pero muy opuesta a la iglesia y el poder temporal papal de Gregorio IX.
Federico II had a charismatic and fascinating personality giving rise to a mythical character. A la salida de la Catedral, como había llovido, encontramos la plaza con charcos y reflejos de los edificios cercanos sobre esta superficie húmeda. Me recordó a Santiago de Compostela .
At the exit of the Cathedral, as it had rained, we found the square with puddles and reflections of the nearby buildings on this humid surface. It reminded me of Santiago de Compostela

Realmente hermosa.
Es una mezcla de estilos, pero el conjunto es estéticamente bonito. Sobre todo al atardecer que toma colores rojizos.
Gran Post! que bonito es Palermo y su catedral!
Tengo intención de hacer unos post del Camino de Santiago. A ver si termino uno para mañana.
