Siem reap, Baphoun
Baphoun Was the centre of EFEO restoration efforts when the civil was erupted, and work paused for a quarter of a century. The temple was taken apart piece by piece, in keeping with the Anastasia method of renovation, but all the records were destroyed during the Khmer Rouge years, leaving expert with 300,000 stones restoration work in 1995, and continues its efforts today. Baphuon is approached by a 200 m elevated walkway made of sandstone, and the central structure is 43 m high. Clamer under the elevated causeway leading to Baphuon for an incredible view of the hundreds of pillars supporting it.
In its heyday,Baphuon would have been one of the mous spectacular of Angkor's temples. Located 200 m northwest of Bayon. it's a puramidal representation of mythical Mt Meru . Construction probably began under suryavarman I and was later completed by Udayadityavarman II. It market the centre of the capital that existed before the construction of Angkor Thom.
