Motorcycle travel series by @velimir 'Sisak 4' (Part #40)

in #travel7 years ago

So what is all this metal stuff all around me here right on the promenade? It seems like remnants from old factories or decommissioned ships. I walk among the scrap metal someone with an awesomely bad sense of humour exposed as art but it doesn't do any trick for me. Maybe you guys can see a different perspective...

A turbine from some huge motor or whatever? :)

I do like the anchor. Amh... but as a part of a restaurant design. Not like this.

Same goes for this. A giant propeller with 4 blades. Could look nice on a wall covered in some patina and entangled in fishing nets, like they used to decorate in the seventies... xD

So I arrive in the town which is entirely built on vast Ancient Rome remains and they show me parts of communist era heavy machinery?

Under everything you see in the following photo are the Roman ruins. Actually, more like the whole Sisak is built on Roman ruins. Instead of uncovering them and making awesome tourist attractions all over this place, you give me scrap metal and call it "industrial heritage"? This is an insult to the culture and a sane mind.

Siscia was a Celtic- Illyrian settlement before Romans conquered it and build a large town with everything a prosperous Roman settlement could wish for. Along with baths, temples, numerous villas and so on, they even had a coin foundry, which would mean huge influence and respect in those days.
I can see none of that. Disappointed.

Well at least there is a jazz concert in town.

Inspiring

It seems like they are proud and craving more for the old times of Sisak Ironworks when it was working in its all industrial power causing many cancer disease cases, than for Roman ruins and remains.
Sadly but true!

exactly...
