Colombia travel blog part 1... Our flight was canceled 😱
So here's the first part of my travel blog.
Why did we even choose to go to Colombia?
It was not because of personal recommendations since none of our friends have ever been there. (Actually, people recommended us NOT to go there because they thought it was incredibly dangerous.) We chose to go there simply because of the cheap flights we found. 440 euro per person for a flight from Vienna to South America seemed pretty fair. I didn't know anything about Colombia as a tourist destination so I started researching on the Internet. After seeing pictures of Colombia's amazing beaches we were like we have to go there!!
So it all started last week on Saturday, we had a flight from Vienna to Paris and then from Paris to Bogotá. Not much to say about the first flight, everything was fine. The second one, however, was a struggle. We were sitting at the gate on Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, waiting for boarding. We already saw the Boeing Dreamliner which was supposed to bring us to Bogotá in less than an hour. Then, there was an announcement saying that the flight might be delayed a few minutes, because the pilot isn't there yet. That was not a big deal, a delay of a few minutes is kind of normal, isn't it? The next announcement was a shock though!
There is no pilot available, the flight is canceled!
We were like 😱😱😱. Then we were really really lucky! The announcement said that all the passengers were supposed to go back to the check in counter for further instructions. Our luck was that we were traveling with hand luggage only, so we didn't have any checked in luggage. While all the other passengers had to wait to get their checked in luggage back we went straight to the check in counter, so we were the first ones there! After a bit of negotiating with the Air France staff we got a hotel voucher for one night, a voucher for the transport to the hotel, a ticket for the next flight to Bogotá, which was exactly 24 hours later, and a free upgrade to premium economy! So we were actually pretty lucky, also because we had never been to Paris before! So our vacation began with a short stop in Paris, but long enough to at least see the Eiffel tower and some of the main attractions of this beautiful city!
So the next day we had our premium economy flight to Bogotá. This time everything worked out pretty well, there was no delay. Our premium economy seats were great, and the Boeing Dreamliner is an amazing airplane. The only problem we had was that we didn't get the vegan food we had ordered months ago... Fortunately we brought some food from the airport in Paris.
But hey, we finally made it to Bogotá :-)
