Brisbane City River Cruise - Australia

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

How's it going Steemers?

I would like to share some photos with you of my beautiful river city - Brisbane aka BOOMTOWN! (because Brisbane is a fast growing city)

So yesterday was my girlfriend's work Christmas party and she organized a lunch river cruise for the office Christmas party.

So I was like, great its going to be a day of small talk with strangers ☺ but there was free drinks so that took the edge off the awkwardness.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland. And in my biased opinion, the best capital in Australia. Brisbane feels like a small city even though it's quite large, with a population of around 2.4 million. It is built around the winding Brisbane river.

And what better way to see the city than a river cruise with free drinks and food ☺🍺🍺

We boarded the boat at Mowbray park, grabbed a Corona and then we were off heading towards the city.

We approached the iconic Story Bridge first. Which is a well known landmark of Brisbane city.

On the right is the city and on the left is Kangaroo point cliffs which are great for rock climbing.

The cliffs were formed back in the day when they were building the city and they were the quarry for all the bricks to build the old buildings back in 1824.

We kept cruising the river as the beers kept flowing, we turned around the corner and cruised past the famous South Bank parklands.

South Bank parklands has a man made beach right in the city, some amazing gardens and a giant Ferris wheel.

Across the river is the Brisbane Treasury Casino where the government will happily take all your hard earnt money.

Next to South Bank is the QLD museum and Art museum. Free entry for both museums so it's always worth a check out.

We had some live music on the boat, the boss got one of the buskers from the Queen street mall to preform some classic acoustic guitar for us. He was great, even busted out Australia's favourite track " Horses " by Daryl Braithwaite.

We did a u turn and headed back past the city and out to the mouth of the Brisbane river.

All along the river there are some amazing houses. These peeps must be ballin with all these mansions on the river. There is one that even looks like a Barbie doll house.

There were a lot of jet ski riders out on the river. I don't know why but I find jet skis so lame. They are always so obnoxious on the water trying to show off and always going way too fast past boats and fishermen, total douche bags on their douche canoes. If they were doing tricks or something it would be a different story but these guys have no talents like that at all.

We ended up at the Gateway bridge before we turned around and headed back towards the city.

On the way back we past the Eat Street markets which is a market full of gourmet food trucks and stalls, all made out of shipping containers. There is a huge range of food options there.

We finally made it back to port with a tummy full of food and drinks, I highly recommend a boat ride along the Brisbane river if you ever come to visit. It was a very enjoyable day on the water.

But it wasn't over for us just yet. We said our good byes to the work team then headed to one of the new bars that has just opened along the river. The all had amazing views of the city and a great spot to relax and have a couple of beers while trying to beat the hot Brisbane weather.

LRM_EXPORT_170341418443277_20181203_204716668.jpeg

The laughs and drinks continued as the sun started to set.

LRM_EXPORT_170289745990160_20181203_204624979.jpeg

Once it got dark we went for a walk along the water, to catch a taxi home.

LRM_EXPORT_170125250132894_20181203_204340496.jpeg

Every night the Story Bridge lights up in a different colour ☺ which is always an awesome sight seeing it reflect off the water.

I hope one day you get to explore Brisbane city for yourself.

Happy travels
