Cherepish monastery in Bulgaria

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

The most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria, except the sea and ski resorts, are monasteries - there are many of them and they are well preserved.

As a rule, monasteries in Bulgaria are in very interesting and picturesque places, with them there are hotels and restaurants - therefore, since spring, there are a lot of tourists. Especially many Europeans. Interested in what turned early Christianity :-)

Bulgaria is an Orthodox Christian country. Christianity here confessed even under the Romans, and after the Constantine edict in 313, Christianity became a permitted religion and the persecution of believers ceased. In Bulgaria, in particular in Sofia, preserved early Christian churches (4th century AD), which in their appearance resemble the Catholic. It was a common architecture for early Christian cult objects. The official baptism of Bulgaria took in 864 from the Orthodox Constantinople.

I'm trying to explain why the appearance of Bulgarian churches and monasteries does not look like Russian. In our strongly pronounced Byzantine style, and Bulgarian is a mix of Byzantine and Romanesque styles. The material from which these objects are built also has an influence.

In Bulgarian this place is called "Tzherepishki Manastir" Assumption Bogorodichno "

This monastery was founded in the 14th century, that is, exactly to the arrival of the Turks. The Ottoman Empire seized this territory in 1396 after the wars that the Bulgarians lost. Since then, the monastery has repeatedly burned and destroyed by earthquakes. Modern buildings date back to the 19th century.

There is a Cherepishsky monastery in 50 kilometers from Sofia on the Iskarsky defile - a beautiful road leading through the mountains Vrachansky balkan.

In this monastery are several attractions:

1. An ossuary in a cave on a rock - here are stored the bones of the soldiers of the victims of the uprising against the Turks in 1876.

2. During the Bulgarian Renaissance, Sofroniy Vrachanski lived here.

3. Bulgarian Leo Tolstoy - Ivan Vazov wrote his famous work: "One Balgarka."

4. The full-length river Iskar.

5. Picturesque rocks.

The entrance to the monastery is free, there is a parking and a restaurant.

Thank you for your time and attention.
