San Diego Canyon, Jemez Springs, New Mexico, USA
This is a crazy canyon full a hot springs and old volcanic rock flows.
We're lookin' south down San Diego Canyon with San Antonio Creek and NM 4 at the bottom. The parking lot is for Spence Hot Springs.
(That ain't all what I say in the video, BTW. I fact checked once I got back ta camp and my computer.)
The video was taken from a promontory here. Park at the San Diego Canyon Overlook Site and follow the forest roads down the hill and east till ya get there. Gettin' back uphill might wind ya. That sonnabitch is steep!
Found this geology report on the Jemez Springs area. I think the top layer a rock makin' the cliff is San Diego Canyon Tuff, rock made of lava blown out of the Valles Caldera volcano 3-5 million years ago.
But the report, honestly, is a bit over my head. Lotsa geo-jargon. Maybe you can figure out better what they're sayin'. (I'm lookin' at YOU, Magmatini!)
