Let´s go to Albania !
Last year we did a nice roadtrip through Albania. The country is just amazing, an absolutely underestimated place, that people (for now) still observe in a completely wrong way. This place caught our intention because of an article in the New York Times, which voted Albania for one of the top five promising travel destinations in the world for the next years. And this we can totaly confirm. We started in the capital Tirana, went to Durres to the coast, to the castle in Elbasan, Skotis place in Berat, to Fier and Vlore with the cool soccer stadium, we drove down to Sarande, with the beautiful beaches, explored the north around Shkoder with all the ancient sights and up the mountains to the historical villages Gjirokaster and Korce.
The country is wonderful, it still possesses a nearly non-touched environment and if you are interested in history you can find plenty of ruins and remains of bygone cultures – from Greek theaters, to Roman Castillos up to Ottoman strongholds. There are terrific lakes, amazing mountain landscapes and one UNESCO heritage next to another. Definitly a great insider tip. There are more pictures in my Albania Foto Gallery. As well you can find our exact route here at Vagabundler Albania.
