Weekend in The Kern River Valley

In early December we rented a cabin for the weekend in Kernville, CA; a historic mining town in the beautiful Kern River Valley. A short drive to Sequoia National Park; it offers scenery, good food, and peace.

It has a small but vibrant downtown area that caters to tourists year round; with antique stores, cafe's and restaurants. The Kern River flows by it, we walked up and down it before lunch, climbed on some logs and watched little duck families waddle into the water.

We went to eat at "Ewings on the Kern" which has the best view of any restaurant I have ever visited. The opening image was shot from there, if you can believe it. The food was also good; I shared a big juicy burger with a friend and had a beer.

After lunch we went for a drive through the crazy cliffs to scout the moon.

We could not drive up the road to see the "100 Giants" due to a recent snow;which was a real letdown; but we did have a beautiful drive around the south side of Sequoia National Park and the Valley. We stopped at Durrwood Creekside B&B to look into staying there in the future. The proprietor there is my favorite sort of person; with a caustic sense of humor and some great stories. I appreciated how his property was littered with all sorts of knickety knacks; It made walking by the creek feel like a mysterious adventure.

Later we stopped by the offices of the " Ranch of the Sequoia". It is private, but you can go to the store there. We were pleasantly suprised by a family of deer that wandered through.

We made stops on the way to enjoy the scenery and have a family photo shoot. Some guy texted a picture of his butt to my mom so we took a group shot by a chicken and sent it to him with the caption. " Nice Butt, here is my cock". I love my mom.

We visited Red Rock Canyon State Park on the way back to LA. The grand rock faces resemble Gaudi architecture. I have never seen anything like it.

We also stopped at a cute little country store for stocking stuffers, and a fun restaurant. We had our Christmas Day a few days later, before mom went back to Maine. I hope she had fun.

That canyon is stunning! I imagine it would light up when the rising/setting sun hits it (whichever way it faces??) Very nice

Thank you; you should see some of the photos my roommate took. He is a professional photographer; trying to get him on here.

I love the wee bench all by itself. Great writing @twirble it looks really nice out there:)
