Only 24 hours in Rome!

I'm going to Rome for a weekend at the start of December, I'm going for work, but I have one day free for myself before I have to fly back home.

So here is my question...

If you've been to Rome before or live there, what would you recommend to somebody who loves art, food and history to get the most out of their 24 hours in this lovely city?
