Great Views from the St. Tecla Mountain, in Spain

A couple of months ago, I went to Spain for a few hours, with a group of friends. We ended up visiting the St. Tecla Mountain (Monte de Santa Tecla) and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and magnificent views from the top of the hill.

After climbing a bunch of stairs under the hot sun, we were a bit dizzy...

But soon enough we composed ourselves. Ahead of us, we could see some houses and a restaurant.

The views all around are simply breathtaking. There are a few houses near the shore, that can make anyone feel quite jealous. After all, who wouldn't want to live in such a beautiful and tranquil place?

A bit to the right, there's the Spanish city of A Guarda, with around 10 000 inhabitants.

Right next to the city, there's the Minho River, separating Portugal and Spain. The houses you see across the other side are in Lusitanian lands already. You can also see a cluster of deserted islands, that someone bothered to name: Ilha da Xunqueira, Ilha Morraceira do Grilo and Ilha Morraceira das Varandas.

The rock formations on the left side of the photo are not natural, they are part of an archaeological site - these are ruins of an 1st century B.C. Celtic fortified settlement named Castro de Santa Trega. I'll tell you more about these ruins on another occasion.

This is so close to Portugal that it has became a natural destination for someone looking to get away just for a while. People like to come here on a Sunday afternoon, spend some time with friends and family... and recover energies to begin another week of work.
