Moroccoan Highlights 2017

in #travel6 years ago

Morocco is a country I have wanted to travel to since I was 16. The architecture, food and medinas have always drawn me to Morocco but what I discovered on my three week trip there was so much more.

I went on an Intrepid Travel group tour, for 21 days starting in Casablanca and finishing in Marrakech we travelled through 14 cities with a trip into the Sahara Desert and the Atlas Mountains.

One of the first and most impressive places we went to was Moulay Idriss. This is one of the oldest cities in Morocco which for religious reasons was only open to tourism in the last 10 years. As a result it has remained very authentic and was a highlight of my trip.

Chefchaouen is also another amazing city. This one has become extremely popular with tourists but for good reason with the bright blue walls that the city is painted. With the mix of hiking, shopping and palaces Chefchaouen has become as iconic a city as Fez or Marrakech but with a much more small town feel.

Fez and Marrakech had the most beautiful with medinas with everything you could ever want to buy and eat. From lanterns to rugs to jewellery to olives and honey everything can be found in the medinas. Marrakech is definitely an overload for the senses but finding a place on a balcony for food and watching the business below.

It seems to be a pretty impressive city that's for sure. I find the architecture pretty fascinating, and all those dome shaped things.
