The Streets Of Ljubljana Are Literally Covered In Graffiti- Or Is It Street Art?! What Do You Think?

Ljubljana is a cultural, quaint city hidden away in Slovenia. The capital of the tiny country has defined itself as a post modern canvas for artists, tourists and locals to indulge themselves. It's a cool place, and the streets are literally covered in graffiti. Some of good, some of it incredible, and some of it... well just plain graffiti.

Walking through the streets of Ljubljana a few years back I documented the engaging art and the not so aesthetic graffiti. And I began to ask myself, when does graffiti become street art? I'm no artist and no expert, so I'll let you decide for yourself after checking out the pictures I took across the city streets.

Graffiti Or Art On The Streets OF Ljubljana?! You Decide!

Ljubljana is a sleek little city with a beautiful, green river winding its way through the old streets. The buildings are rustic, with red roofs and distinctive designs. It's an easy city to admire as you walk through its quiet streets.

For such a good looking city, there's a surprising amount of street art covering the walls and bridges, murals and set pieces galore are found in the streets, but rather than being eyesores, I feel that in only adds to the eclectic mood of this vibrant place!

Some pieces might not be so artistic, or to everyone's taste. Everything is very public, and there's hardly a free spot in the city that hasn't been taken. Even the bins are covered in spray paint.

Some pieces are downright insane, some creepy and other just have a little bit of flair about them. Combined they crate a strange yet inspiring atmosphere of artistic creativity.

There's even an entire district which has been essentially commandeered by artistic folk for the purpose of creativity. Some just call them squatters, others call them artists, but a the whole Metelkova District has been turned into a work of art too.

What do you think? Graffiti or art?

It's possible to see some "art" in these graffitis but from your pictures it look more a mix of ideas from different people, which is far from art... :(

I love the perspective you gave to your trip; other people only show the usual routes, but you show another side of the city.

I feel that learned so much with it post.

Thanks! 💙

Some of it definitely looks like art, although graffiti seems to distract the viewer...
