An Epic Hike To The Summit Of Mount Bruce! Western Australia's SECOND Highest Mountain!

in #travel6 years ago

I hiked to the summit of Mount Bruce, Western Australia's SECOND tallest mountain peak!

This is Mount Bruce!

It's a red, dusty, rocky and hot mountain in Karijini National Park, Western Australia.

It's also Western Australia's SECOND highest mountain, and I hiked right to the summit!

Why is that a challenge, I hear you ask? Surely I should be trying to climb Western Australia's highest mountain, and then write an article about that?!

Well, Western Australia's highest mountain is actually quite easy to climb, you can drive up most of it, and it's only 15 metres taller than the second highest. So that's why I'm telling you about my hike up Mount Bruce!

Mount Bruce, Western Australia's Second Highest Mountain!

Mount Bruce is 1234 metres in height. It's really quite epic as far as Australian mountains go. If you've ever been to Australia, you'll know how flat the country is, especially in Western Australia...

The hike to the top was extremely sweaty. I mean really sweaty. I had to take up a load of water, and in the Australian sun, it was relentless. I was covered in red dust and sweat before I'd even walked 100 metres.

The summit is a ten kilometre round trip walk from the start. Not too far as far as hikes go really, but in the oppressive heat of the climate I was in, it was challenging.

The summit was a long way... along rocky tracks and past a bloody annoying false summit that broke my spirits, and almost ended me. But I carried on. I powered through and marched ever upwards.

I made it to the summit, and the scenery was breathtaking! It was EPIC!

But then, it was a long way down....

Great review! It's so horrible when you realize you took the wrong way 😅

It don't have to be always the highest mountain to have such an epic memory forever!

It was pretty awesome, even if it was only the second highest!

Great thanks for the info and photos of and from Mt Bruce.

nice pictures, thanks for sharing.ive never made it to the top.we went to the water in the gorges on our RDO day when we stayed in Wodgina camp when i was working on RGP5 project...

The gorges are amazing too, the hike was a bit brutal. Were you working the mines there?

yes mate, for about 3 years, between port hedland and newman on the duplication of the BHP rail track.
i didnt work directly in the mines, just almost everywhere along the railtrack...knew every corner and spot along the way.....
im sure you went for a swim after your hike....
i know the heat can be brutal in this part of WA during the summer months...almost unbearable....
