Qube's Travel Stories || Over the "Black Forest" to Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany)

Hi, here is James
and this is my travel story...

It was February when I decided with my buddy Alex to take a photo tour in the neighboring Black Forest. Others drive 500 kilometers to visit the Black Forest and I live almost on the edge, have it on the nose and drive far too rarely ...

That day, we decided to make a quick transit and see as much as possible in one day.

So we made our way to our first destination on the lake in Titisee-Neustadt. When we arrived, the first holiday mood was noticeable. Some horse carriages have passed the main road at our parking lot. The travelers obviously enjoyed it.

We then walked through the historic city center to the lake. On the way we met some Asian tourists. Supposedly they love the Black Forest and the famous Black Forest cuckoo clocks. Most souvenir shops and restaurants had closed at this time of the year. At one of these gas station I discovered an interesting lantern - and I love to photograph lanterns - no matter where I am, lanterns may not be missing in the holiday pictures.

Then we arrived at the lake. It was icy and there was snow on the surface. There was silence and several ducks went back and forth. It was empty. Sometime in the summer I will come again. One could only guess what it looks like in the season. Now you could not do much there, except to catch some fresh air and enjoy the scenery.

From Titisee we drove on to Feldberg. There the ski season was in full swing. There was heaps of snow and the fresh snow was already on the way. But since we were not equipped for snow hiking, we then after a short walk, further on the way. I wonder what it looks like in the summer. I'm not that winter person 😀

Next stop was Schluchsee. There we have been on the side where there is hardly anything except a train stop and a residential area. The lake was partially icy and already at the Titisee - deserted. I took some nice pictures of the breaking ice and then we wanted to go on again. The cold wind there had made us to create.

Off to Freiburg im Breisgau. It became much milder and the snow became rain. It took a while until we found a parking space. At first, we did not want to spend a lot on parking fees, because the city is really expensive. In the end we paid € 1 an hour - we did not find any free parking spaces. Without plan and goal we went to the historic city center. Dusk erupted over the city and the lights reflected on the wet streets. The busy streets with people, the lights of the cars and trams gave the photos a wonderful atmosphere. I always wanted to find a view, but that was easier said than done. Most of the houses where I hoped to find this view, were unfortunately closed. After the tour through the city we finally looked for something good for dinner. We found ourselves near the train station in a fast-food organic restaurant.
