TRAVELMAN NEPAL: Scenes of the Beautiful Nepali Countryside through the Window of a Bus

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I love looking out the window of moving vehicles. I like it even more when I’m a passenger and I can try and snap a picture of the world passing before my eyes. In this post you can see the Nepali country side through the window of a tourist bus.

I had to be at the station by seven A.M. It’s a ten minute walk from the lake side. I arrived early. A man selling hot pastries in a basket greeted me. I couldn’t resist. I bought a large one for two hundred rupees. He tried to sell me a second at a discount. I was like, Dude! I respect you trying to make a buck, but you gotta be kidding me, this thing is enormous. It tasted enormously fantastic.

I walked across the yard and found a coffee shop. The young woman was busy serving a group of Nepalis hot teas. She had me sit and she made me a latte.

It came time to board the bus. A very old woman was sitting in the seat next to my window seat. I attempted to indicate that I had to get by her to get to that seat. She misunderstood and simply scooted over to the window.

I did my best to indicate with gestures that the window was mine. I felt bad pressing the issue. The fact that she was a sweet old Nepali lady didn’t help, but it was my only bus trip from Pokhara to Chitwan and I’d reserved a window to ensure I had a good view. On top of that, it was clear the window was of no importance to her.

This is the back of the little old lady’s head. I was tempted to ask to take a selfie with her...

I gave up, sat next to her, and decided to wait for the ticket taker to board the bus so I could have him explain to the woman. A man and woman boarded, they knew her and engaged in conversation. I asked the woman if she spoke English, she did. I had her explain that the window seat was mine. It took three seconds, we switched. No big whoop. I was happy.

We pulled out of the station. people sat around morning twig and trash fires to talk and warm themselves...

A partially completed bridge. I saw so many partially completed structures around Nepal. Many of them looked as though the project had been abandoned like one of my dad’s woodworking projects in the basement. I imagine Nepali bridge and house builders sitting in front of the tv watching Walker Texas Ranger like my dad, “No, I’m still working on it. I’m gonna finish it.”

This stretch of road was so beautiful in the morning light of the sunrise. The colorful houses framed by a backdrop of these fields catching the light. Broken stone and gravel piles and piles of trash often served as a juxtaposition to the scene. Only a few of these shots came out...

This pic and the one after are blurred (not easy taking photos with an iPad from a bus window on a bumpy ride). I’m including them anyway because, for me, the blur adds something to the life of the photos, especially the second one. So much is happening

I can hear the wives of the men that put the piles of gravel, wood, and stone in the street telling their husbands to turn off the tv and either finish that or clean it up, for goodness sakes! The Polaskis will be hear next week for the barbecue, get rid of it...

More gravel and rocks in the middle of town. “I told you the Polaskis are going to be here, this place looks like a gravel pit. Turn off off that Chuck Norton karate show and get rid of it!”

This. I'm pretty sure I think these exact words every time I get the window seat on the bus. The thought is nicely captured with your photos.

Thanks, so glad it resonates with you as well.

It seems that places are so beautiful and at the same time a lot of garbage. Nepalese need to learn the purity of the Germans. Thanks very interesting.

My sister visited Nepal and she liked it! Hopefully I can go there too someday!

Nice places and photography:)

Nice photography hope you enjoyed at Nepal thinks for sharing us about Nepal with a great photos @travelman

It is interesting what you see from the window.

Rocks holding down roofs remind me Colombia. I saw that a lot. Too bad if strong winds come along...

How long have you been living in South America? Did you travel there and decide to stay in a particular country, or did work take you/

I backpacked around South America for a year. Then I went back to Australia for a few years and now I've been living in Panama since August 2016.
