TRAVELMAN DUBAI: The Dubai Mall is One of the Biggest Tourist Attractions in the World
How big is this mall? It’s so big that it has five Starbucks! (That’s how I measure mall size.) My entire hometown has two! This mall has five!!!!!
How big is it? It’s so big that when someone asks you where the mall aquarium is, you can’t just say it’s across from the mall’s Cheesecake Factory.
“Oh, you mean by the T-Rex?”
“No, not that Cheesecake Factory, the other one in the middle of the mall! Besides, you can’t miss the aquarium.”
If you pay to go in the aquarium, you can walk through a glass tunnel at it’s bottom, you can scuba dive, you can interact with sea otters, go through the underwater zoo, and much more.
Oh, and that video screen above the aquarium? ...Yeah, world record for most pixels.
...Most pixels ever.
You can watch the divers feed the fish. The giant manta Ray was practically molesting the diver with the bucket of food, wrapping itself around the diver’s back as many of the other fish swarmed around as well.
Completed in November 2008, it is the largest mall in the world by area. It drops to fifteen if you go by store number. It’s still number one in my heart of hearts... It’s got sharks.
Does your mall have sharks? Didn’t think so...
Now you may be saying, “Sure, it’s got sharks and two Cheesecake Factories, but I recall you going to a mall in Kuala Lumpur that had a rollercoaster. Now, that was something!”
Rollercoaster? ...Yeah, they got one of those too.
No big whoop. It’s inside a virtual reality theme park offering virtual reality enhanced rides and games.
This is an attraction based on the Movie Pacific Rim. You control a giant robot and fight giant monsters.
It IS the park of the future. It was like walking into the movie Minority Report. In fact, this entire city is like that. Only ten years ago most of this city didn’t exist!
This is a Walking Dead VR attraction. You sit in that room in a wheel chair with all your VR gear and VR gun.
This is the entrance to it. They call it PVRK.
These are the VR enhanced rides. I’m guessing the headset takes you to an outdoor theme park or two.
Now you may be saying, “Yeah but does it have a giant waterfall?” And to that, I say that’s a strangely specific question, and yes they do have a giant waterfall!
This place is bigger than a soccer stadium.
In fact there’s a soccer stadium inside of it!
Maybe ice skating is more your thing.
Got you covered.
Too lazy to walk around this city sized mall, take a taxi.
Because I don’t think the Jetliner is operational.
But who knows?
Yeah, and there’s this. It’s connected to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. It costs about 75 dollars to go halfway up, and about 130 to go three quarters of the way. Too rich for my blood, so I passed.
They call the tickets for it “At the Top” I think they should call it “At the halfway or three quarters of the way point!” I get it though, not as catchy.
A giant fountain outside. They put on a big fountain and light show at night... and of course, pretty sure, it’s the biggest of its kind in the world.
