So far this city amazes me. Yesterday I was going on almost no sleep so I walked around, bought my first Starbucks in four months, and ate at the Cheese Cake Factory because even though it’s not somewhere I usually go in America, it reminded me of home.

I think it’s the excess that the Cheese Cake Factory offers that made me homesick, and the bread. I had two baskets of bread. I evened it out with a salad though...okay, it was a barbecue-ranch-chicken salad, but it had lettuce so it was healthy.

I fell asleep at six PM. I couldn’t stay awake. I booked my hostel before I arrived. I’m there tonight as well but I’m going to move to the beach Hostel. I don’t like the vibe where I’m at. The common room always has a bunch of dudes playing xbox at a loud volume, and it’s a small area. Hoping the beach hostel is more social.

Gonna figure out what to do today after I write this post. Probably do the Burj Khalifa today. That’s the tall building.

Yesterday I read that there was so much construction here in the past ten years that a quarter of the world’s cranes were in Dubai.

This building was begging for a wanna be photographer tourist with a cell phone to take an artsy-fartsy black and white photo, so I obliged.

Dubai makes me think of the hubris of mankind. “Let’s build a giant, fancy city in the desert, a place that nature tells us isn’t really the best spot- Nature can stick it! We have billions of dollars!”
