We've been wanting to go for soooo long now. Diving off the Similian islands has been recommended by friends and family. It's something we will do before we leave Thailand (that's still undecided). Thanks for the in-depth writing and good quality photos - though we wouldn't want to cross paths with that sea snake like you did! It would have definitely bite us, it's just one of those things to happen. :p
You should definitely try the Similians for diving @travelling-two. This series was written from memory from 6 years ago so I don't know what the reefs are like now but at that time they were the best I visited in the whole of Thailand for sure. I'm glad you enjoyed the dive report :-)
Sam's sister was there two or three years ago and was raving about it still, so the reefs should be good. She also suggested a few islands closer to the Malaysian border (Koh Lipe and the neighboring ones), which she went to last year. If we would go, it will be towards the end of the year or next year as we're got some trips planned from now until October time. If only we had the time and money.
