in #travel7 years ago

Hello Dear Steemit friends. I am David from Malaysia. Malaysia is a multiethnic country. Malaysia population can be divided into 3 major ethnic groups Malays, Chinese and Indians. Because of its geographical position, Malaysia has been colonised by many foreign powers and also migrations from many countries. Hence, Malaysia diverse culinary style has a lot of influence from Chinese, Indian, Thai, Portuguese, Dutch and British.

In this post I want to show you some delicious Malaysia food that you probably have not tried before.

  1. Nasi Kukus --> Steamed rice with fried chicken marinated in herbs and spices. Nasi kukus always served with special gravy poured on top of the rice. A good Nasi kukus is always has to do with its gravy. The Gravy is the soul of the Nasi kukus.

  2. Claypot Chicken Rice --> This claypot chicken rice is different from the rest because it is cooked over charcoal. That means extra smokiness and more crispy burnt rice at the bottom of the claypot. To make a good claypot chicken rice, the rice has to be cooked inside the claypot till 70% and then topped with freshly marinated chicken.

  3. Ayam Penyet --> Ayam penyet is originated from East Java Indonesia. The chicken is smashed and cooked till fall-apart tender and juicy. It served with sambal(chili paste), slices of cucumber, fried tofu and tempeh(soy bean).

  4. Sizzling Chicken Rice --> This is a very common dish cooked by the Malay. This dish is an innovation from a Chinese dish which is the Sizzling pan fried noodles. They used fried rice instead and top it with an egg. We all love egg, don't we.

  5. Naan and Tandoori Chicken--> I personally love this dish so much. The smokiness of the chicken is incredible. Naan means the flatbread. Tandoor is the traditional clay oven to used to cooked the Naan and the chicken. The chicken has been marinated in Indian herbs and spices and then charred to perfection. It is juicy and tender.

  6. Chinese Roasted Pork and Innards Sausage --> This is a common dish you can find in Malaysia. But to find good one is a bit of challenge especially the roasted innards sausage. So I wanted to recommend this place called BBQ Soon Hing Restaurant 順興燒臘飯店. They have a number of branches in Kuala Lumpur. If you visit Kuala Lumpur, you must try it!

  7. Sarawak Mee Golok --> This is a Chinese dish originated from Sarawak which is one of the states in Malaysia. It is served with a bowl of dumplings soup and minced meat on top of the noodles. It is very different taste from the Cantonese Wonton noodles. It might look pale and subtle in colour. But do not let that fools you. This dish is flavourful and delicious. Don't believe me? Try it yourself!
