Finding Gems From The Side Street in Bangkok with Travelgirl

Hi Everyone,

When you read my title, you may be thinking what Gems?!?!?! Honestly, it could be anything. During my time in Bangkok this time and even previous times in various cities, I find you going through the side or smaller streets may get you some bargains or something interesting to eat. Please take note, I only explore them during the day, not at night. This post won't be about a food place but rather some great shopping bargains.

Near our hotel at Prince Palace, there were in fact many side streets and during the day its busy with people doing their own business. The first store that caught my attention was the store that told portable mattresses and cushions. Why this is a dear item to me, when my little ones were young, the nice portable mattress sofas at Target was ALWAYS sold out so literally I would have to get to the shops early each time they release a new style/version. When I saw these at the shop all readily available, a part of me wish I was in Thailand to buy of these to take home. Can I just say the price is like 1/8 of what I paid in back home.

The next thing really was a bargain and I was glad I bought two packs ie 2 dozen of them home. Socks with the little grips on the sole. They are hard to come by back home and are super expensive. I normally get them from Kmart but again not always available due to the "hard to come by". Last year I spent over $50 on just socks at Seeds as they had the little grip socks. At 120 Baht for 1 dozen, I cannot resist and got 2 dozen to bring home.

The stores are pretty random depending on what the owners decide to sell and there are no systems at all. Although technically not the side street we did come across some PJ stores with cute prints. That's another pain point from Australia, PJs are expensive. Being told they are 120 baht each site was nice. Even the girls were getting some and they are from an Asian city so you know the price is acceptable here.

Don't be afraid to explore side streets in Bangkok and you may be able to find some gems as I have. Have you found any gems while explorer smaller, less mainstream areas in Thailand?
