Mighty Mountains are calling

in #travel6 years ago

When it comes to everlasting memories and once in a lifetime trip, one can undoubtedly buckle his shoes, pack his rucksack for a trip next to heaven. Yes, I am talking about a road trip to The land of “HIGH PASSES” Ladakh. Guys its a high time if you are planning the same. It happens in every bikers mind to pick up his bike get it fuelled and set out for a journey to explore untouched mountains, deserted terrains, icy riverine and lakes. Thump of the engine, pull off the accelerator, smell of the burning rubber.... This is something that you can never buy, you have to earn it, so put the pedal on the metal because after few months this opportunity may not be there as snow covered peaks of “ZOZILA PASS” become the biggest hindrance to reach there

Standing Tall The ZOZILA PASS

But just before starting this journey there are few noteworthy points that you need to keep in mind so that you finish it without any jolt.

First thing before starting this journey is to condition yourself according to physical conditions. Particularly in Ladakh where there is minimum vegetation and humidity, the amount of Oxygen available is very less, so before starting this journey condition your lungs by jogging and sprinting for at least 2 months before the journey.

Practice half squats, full squats and arm stretches, so that with minimum rest you can scale maximum distance on your bike in a single go. Maintain a first aid kit and don’t forget to add BP tablets since Blood Pressure can surge in high altitude areas easily.

Now the most crucial part.... Selection of bike. It is a common myth that choosing Royal Enfield is the best thing you can do for such a journey, but everything depends on Pillion, if you carry a partner with you then definitely Bullet or Avenger s a good alternative as per Indian standards, but for a single rider with 15 kg extra payload any bike between 150-200 CC is enough.
Always maintain a repair kit and some extra head lamps

The most important thing... The mistake most of the people commit.... The day you reach Ladakh don’t start your journey straight forward. Acclimatize yourself for at least 3 days. The day you reach the valley definitely you will feel nausea, mild headache but it will subside after 2 days. Since the air is much dry, you can enjoy moist humid air at the bank of river SINDHU and perform SINDHU SNAN which according to Hindu mythology holds great importance.

Last but not the least the base of the expedition is to ENJOY. Every kilometre you will cover will mesmerize you. So keep your mouth shut and eyes open, just enjoy the ride. Believe me riding is one of the most savoury condiment that will allow you to explore yourself from inside out.

HAPPY JOURNEY
