this reminds me of my own trip to fiji many moons ago. i arrived a few days before one of their coups. life was a snail crossing over a puddle, meandering in his own quiet way. yet in the villages, tension in the atmosphere was invisibly palpable, like humidity permeating the air just before a downpour. basic, elemental and real. and so so so different from anything i'd ever experienced.
