Welcome Nugget, The Second largest Gold Nugget ever found.
In my recent visit to Ballarat in Victoria, Australia, I had the opportunity to have a look at the second largest gold nugget ever found in the world, although being a replica it was amazing to see such a big chunk of gold considering it was 99.6% pure gold.
The Witkowski Brothers bought it for 10,050 pounds back in 1858 and a year later send it off to London where it was melted down and made into sovereigns. In 2013 the gold content alone would be valued at $4 million, but because of the purity and specimen it would sell for much much more this amount.
Unfortunately I don't have much photos to show of the underground mine because they all came out blurry ;(
Date: 9 June 1858
Place: Ballarat, VIC - Australia
Weight: 68.2kg
Length: 50.8cm
Wide: 30.48cm
Thick: 20.32cm
You can barely see, but next to the bright light there was an animation portraying the miner that found the nugget.
I just ordered some Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz coins . My first gold coins ever. Yippie.
That nugget weighs almost as much as me.
Nice one. If you haven't already, check out www.silverstackers.com A great community there for discussion and trade of gold/silver coins/bars among other things at great prices. I'm promoting STEEM over there and SilverStackers over here to try and bring these communities together.
Thanks. I will go check it out.
Funny about the weighs :-) good one. Greetings 🤗
that such a huge chunk of gold. Now you are a rich man if you ever find one nowadays. 😂
That's for sure, but believe it or not, people here still find 4kg nuggets, not to shaby hehe
