This is the story of two nerds falling in love with Ios.
No, ok, I'm not talking about Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, neither about Apple in any way, (too bad I know..).
This is the beginning of a love story.
I (@tizswa) and my friend Francesco (@fraswa) felt in love with Greece in August 2013, when we went for the first time to the Cyclades.
Why two Italians should go to Greece
We both grew up in Rome and went to school together. Since many years (at least 15) we used to spend our summer holidays together trying to collect the few money we could, to reach our week of freedom, the week we dreamed about all year.
Traveling was always a passion of mine and these first experiences started it all.
After many years in Italy, with the only exceptions of a summer school in London and a week in Palma de Mallorca, we decide to have our Week abroad.
The constraints are:
- Beautiful Sea, (we're bit spoiled).
- A destination for young.
- A low budget.
The Greek Flag on our ferry, Athens. Greece
Some years before actually going to Ios, we had the same plan with some other friends, you have to know that going to Greece by ferry after the high school graduation is a big classic for Italians!
Anyway, in 2013 we do it, we fly to the romantic Santorini Island.
"What? Santorini?"
Yes, the destination is Ios, but the island is so small that doesn't really have an airport. The cheapest solution is fly to the "Sunrise Island" and then take a ferry.
The Perfect Summer Destination
I discover Greece enjoying one of the most beautiful islands in the world (yes). Ios in the Cyclades is a jewel, a small paradise.
The environment is idyllic. White houses, small streets, and wonderful beaches.

I took this picture of the main square during the morning, it is the only moment to have a clean shot of it. This place is full of young people from all over the world entering a bar to another, partying all night long.
The Food
Greek Food deserves a dedicated chapter, and even in this sector, as Italian, I'm spoiled.

When I shot this picture was already too late! Anyways, you can have an idea of the place.
I would like to underline the level of the service you receive in Greece, and believe me, we were kind of saving money back at the time!
After a year working in the office, this is what everyone should deserve.
