Exploring Parque Arvi in Medellin, Colombia

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Parque Arvi is a massive forest located on top of the mountain range above Medellin. It is really beautiful and a real popular spot with locals for camping, swimming and just spending time with their families. I got the time and opportunity to go explore there yesterday with some newly made friends here in Colombia and it was an awesome way to spend a sunny Sunday here in Medellin.

Firstly, getting there is really easy. The metro in Medellin is awesome and really cheap. You jump on the north bound line to Niqui and jump off at a station called Acevedo and walk up to the cable cars and get off at station Dominigo, then jump on a second cable car that will cost you $5,500 pesos each way per person (little hint ~ buy two trips so you can get back without having to re-line up at Parque Arvi to get back to the Metro in Domingo).

The ride itself is breathtaking with stunning views of Medellin as you climb to the top of the mountains, then you arrive to the station at Parque Arvi. Do go between Tuesday and Sunday, as there is a market there with souvenirs, food, wine and plants. However, if you are after coffee then make your way to cafe en la Montana, which is probably one of the best little cafes I have found in Medellin to date.

It doesn't look like much but if you like coffee then stopping here is a definite yes when you visit Parque Arvi

Seriously, amazing coffee and the owner is happy to sit with you and talk about coffee for hours! The guy is beyond passionate about everything coffee

Besides the incredible local cafe and coffee there are restaurantes and food trailers everywhere throughout the park besides families cooking and camping and enjoying the cold water of the river that flows within the park itself. At the end of the day if you want to simply explore the park yourself put aside most of the day because the park is massive. The good thing too if you do not feel comfortable walking around the area by yourself or your espanol isn't too great than there are numerous tours you can jump, which you can ask about at the station as soon as you arrive at Parque Arvi. However, either way when you come to Medellin definitely put a day aside to explore this place.
