Off-road to a jungle waterfall. Thailand. (video)
Untouched waterfalls aren't always easy to find. There are usually picnic clearings near by, car parks and view points with cut out steps and hand rails that spoil the natural beauty. I am not sure if this small jungle waterfall was one of those forgotten spots or a 'never-has-been', either way it was beautiful.
Just over 2 hours from Bangkok and an another 30 minutes off-road along a great jungle track we arrived.
The drive in was over grown and full of life. Butterflies, huge stick insects, hairy caterpillars, river crabs and variety birds to name just a few.
Some of the turns required some careful maneuvering in and around the bamboo but I can't say I didn't leave with a few more scratches!
The track followed the valley floor passing by different sections of the stream/river. We stopped and swam at the most impressive pool and waterfall. It wasn't tall but was certainly clean. Fish could be seen swimming in the clear water and somehow, up in this mountainous area there were lots of crabs.
I was able to drive right down to the waters edge, the perfect spot to set up for lunch. It was also the only turning point that I could find. The sounds of the forest were drowned out by the noise of the waterfall. Walking back along the track I could hear just how many animals and birds were there.
As we cleared up and left, we passed a shack. On the the way we we didn't stop, but this time we did. I can't be sure what it was used for as it was empty and had not been lived in or used for a long time.
Behind the shack, was another track that I had missed the first time. It followed the mountain up and eventually connect to a small village and back to paved roads. This alternative route lead us through the forest further and gave a great view from the ridge before dropping down and taking us back to civilisation.
My first and only jump from the 'small' waterfall wasn't glamorous or graceful! Instead I plunged into the unknown, trying to land shallow and hoping there were no underlying rocks or logs lol.
A short clip to give a quick idea of the waterfall and the surroundings jungle. It was a little overcast that day, but still really hot.
